Starlink slow internet: tests, evidence and complaints
If your Starlink connection is slow or unreliable, start with these equipment checks. Then document a repeatable result and ask for a specific investigation.
When this helps
- You use Starlink.
- Your connection is slower than expected, drops out or performs badly at certain times.
Check your Starlink
These checks apply to the Starlink app and dish. Read the alert name before you move the hardware.
Open the Starlink app and read any alert, such as service outage or obstructed.
Use Check for Obstructions when calls or games keep dropping.
A service-outage alert means Starlink reports an outage in your area. Wait for that alert to clear.
Do not factory-reset the router as a first step. A reset clears the Wi-Fi name and password.
Separate the service from your home Wi-Fi
For dish outages and the sky view, see the Starlink page. Router settings are in the Starlink router guide.
What each plan does after its data allowance is on the Starlink satellite page.
Compare a wired connection to the router with Wi-Fi on the same device.
Repeat the same test server during the slowdown and at a quieter time.
Record download, upload, latency and whether another household device was using the connection.
How to complain to Starlink
Use Starlink’s official support to report the fault. Request a formal complaint reference if it remains unresolved.
Include the plan wording, dates, test conditions, previous references and the specific outcome you want. Ask for a written response.
Start with Starlink support. A later home-service complaint in the United States can follow the United States complaint guide.
On Connectivity hell, Starlink has 74 public Wi-Fi complaints in 30 days. See Starlink on Connectivity hell.
Collect the evidence with Kilobat
On a Mac, Kilobat can record connection checks and produce a support report. Review the report and add your test conditions before sharing.
The basic report export is free. Kilobat Pro’s complaint wizard helps assemble your evidence, impact and requested resolution into a draft you review and send.
The support report leaves out the dish serial number and your location. Add those only if Starlink’s own form asks for them.
Measurements cover this Mac while monitoring ran. They cannot prove whole-home uptime, establish provider fault or replace a required official measurement procedure.
