Step by step

How to connect to Iberia Wi-Fi on a Mac

On an aircraft with Starlink, from Iberia’s Starlink page:

  1. Turn on airplane mode on your device.

  2. Select the Iberia WiFi network. The connection portal opens with a welcome screen.

  3. Sign in with your email address or frequent flyer number. If the portal doesn’t open, go to starlink.iberia.com.

On the older Wi-Fi, join Iberia WiFi too. If the portal doesn’t open, scan the QR code on your seat or type shop.iberia.com. Business passengers sign in with their seat number and surname. Iberia Club members use their email or number and password, which can’t be reset in flight.

What’s free on Iberia

  • Starlink Wi-Fi is free in Economy, Premium Economy and Business on equipped aircraft. Iberia says you don’t enter payment details or choose a plan.
  • Iberia says Starlink is available to Iberia Club members, partner programme members and customers who register during the flight. Its FAQ says no prior registration is needed.
  • On the older Wi-Fi, messaging is free for the whole flight for Business passengers and Iberia Club members. You can also join Iberia Club on board.
  • The free messaging covers apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger and Telegram. It is for text messages only, so files and photos need a paid package.

On board with Kilobat

Make a slow, shared link go further

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows what each app sends and holds back what can wait. On Iberia Wi-Fi:

  • The sign-in page. When it doesn’t open by itself, the menu bar says This Wi-Fi wants you to sign in, with Open sign-in page. Turn your VPN on after you’ve signed in.
  • Mark it metered. macOS treats plane Wi-Fi as unlimited. Mark it Metered in Kilobat’s Wi-Fi & Bluetooth menu or with kilobat networks cost metered, and Kilobat skips its own speed tests. If automatic switching is enabled, it switches to Travel.
  • Updates wait. With Pro, paused updaters enabled and the network filter on, macOS Software Update, App Store downloads, Google Updater and Microsoft AutoUpdate wait for an unmetered network. The apps keep working.
  • See what’s using it. Every app’s upload and download, live in the menu bar, so a messaging-only plan isn’t spent on a sync you forgot.
  • Send later. A big upload, such as Dropbox syncing a folder, shows as a row with its speed. With Pro, Send later can hold it until you’re on unmetered Wi-Fi again, for up to eight hours while Kilobat is open.
  • Know what’s slow. Health shows latency and loss, and with Pro their history through the flight. Those measurements can help you investigate a slow connection. When Slack or Zoom won’t load, Is it them or me? reads the service’s status page.
