Where LNER Wi-Fi works, and where it drops
LNER says its Wi-Fi uses mobile data connections along the route and picks the best one in each area.
LNER says the Wi-Fi on Azuma trains is better than on its previous trains.
Azuma trains have power sockets at every seat and USB ports in First Class.
LNER’s Wi-Fi is certified under the Friendly WiFi standard, so indecent and inappropriate material is blocked.
The terms warn that faults or loss of signal can make the Wi-Fi temporarily unavailable.
The rules
Data limits, streaming on LNER
Limits and streaming
LNER restricts streaming on board and suggests downloading TV and films before you travel. Its terms say the service is for general browsing, not streaming music or video or large downloads, and speeds may be restricted. Some high-bandwidth sites may be blocked. Once signed in you can use it for an unlimited time on your journey.
Tips
Before you board
1
Download shows and films before boarding, because LNER restricts streaming.
2
If the portal doesn’t load, check the LNER Wi-Fi guide PDF linked on its Wi-Fi page.

Connectivity hell
LNER Wi-Fi on the complaint board
LNER has fewer than 3 public Wi-Fi complaints in the last 90 days, so it isn’t ranked. These train operators have the most public Wi-Fi complaints in the last 30 days, as of 5 November 2026.
Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows what each app sends and holds back what can wait. On LNER Wi-Fi on board:
The sign-in page. When it doesn’t open by itself, the menu bar says This Wi-Fi wants you to sign in, with Open sign-in page. Turn your VPN on again after you’ve signed in. Free
Why it can’t connect. When a VPN, iCloud Private Relay or custom DNS hides the sign-in page, Kilobat names the layer that broke: VPN, DNS or the network. Free
See what’s using it. Every app’s upload and download, live in the menu bar, so you know which one is taking the shared link. Free
Mark it metered. macOS treats train Wi-Fi as unlimited. Mark it Metered and Kilobat skips its own speed tests; with automatic switching, Travel blocks backups and the like on that network. Pro
Send later. A big upload, such as Dropbox syncing a folder, can wait until you’re on unmetered Wi-Fi again, for up to eight hours while Kilobat is open. Pro
Pro is $29 once for two Macs, with a 7-day free trial and 14-day refunds. More in saving hotspot data.
