Spectrum WiFi router (Advanced WiFi) restart, devices, port forwarding and UPnP

Spectrum’s WiFi routers with Advanced WiFi are rented to Spectrum Internet customers and are managed almost entirely in the My Spectrum App or on Spectrum.net. There’s no local admin page; channels and guest Wi-Fi aren’t available.

Checked 1 November 2026. Spectrum WiFi 6E (SAX2V1S, SAX2V1R) and WiFi 6 routers with Advanced WiFi, in the current My Spectrum App (menus as of 2026). Spectrum says some Advanced Settings are still rolling out by market.

Sign in to the Spectrum WiFi Router

Spectrum’s staff say these routers can’t be configured by typing their IP address into a browser. All settings go through the app or Spectrum.net.

  1. Scan the QR code on the router’s back label, or get the My Spectrum App from your app store.

  2. Sign in with your Spectrum username and password.

  3. Tap the Services tab.

  4. Under your equipment, tap the router to see its details and Advanced Settings.

If you don’t have a Spectrum username, create one on Spectrum.net. A factory reset (holding Reset for 15 seconds or more) removes your personal Wi-Fi name and password.

Restart it properly

  1. Open the My Spectrum App and tap the Services tab.

  2. Tap your router in the equipment list.

  3. Tap Restart Equipment and wait for it to come back online.

Restart with the button

  1. Press and hold the Reset button on the router for 4–14 seconds.

  2. Let go before 15 seconds, or the router resets to factory settings.

A reboot keeps your personal settings. With a separate Spectrum modem, Spectrum suggests restarting the modem first, then the router.

Schedule a restart

Spectrum’s docs describe no scheduled restart.

Update the firmware

  1. Leave the router plugged in; Spectrum’s docs give no way to install an update yourself.

While a firmware update installs, the light alternates red and blue (red and blue/green on the WiFi 6 router). The router restarts by itself when done.

See connected devices

  1. In the My Spectrum App, tap Services, then Internet.

  2. Find Devices on Network and tap Manage.

  3. Each device shows as Connected, Paused or Disconnected.

  4. Tap a device and choose Pause Device to cut its Wi-Fi.

  5. To pause on a timetable, open the device and set up a Pause Schedule.

You can group devices and pause a whole group at once. A pause can take a few minutes to take effect.

UPnP and port forwarding

UPnP is on by default. Spectrum’s guides list UPnP control as an Advanced WiFi feature.

  1. In the My Spectrum App, tap Services, then your router.

  2. Tap Advanced Settings › UPnP.

  3. Turn the toggle off or on.

With UPnP on, any app or device at home can open a port to the internet without asking. If nothing needs it, turn it off and use a manual port forward instead.

Port forwarding

  1. In Advanced Settings, tap Port Forwarding & IP Reservations.

  2. Tap Create IP Reservation, pick the device and turn on Reserve IP Address.

  3. Then tap Add Port Assignment for that device.

  4. Enter a name, the external and internal ports, and the protocol (TCP+UDP, TCP or UDP).

  5. Save the rule.

Spectrum requires an IP reservation before a device can have a port forward. Remove a rule with Delete Port Assignment.

NAT-PMP

Spectrum’s docs don’t mention NAT-PMP.

Prioritise calls and gaming

Spectrum’s docs describe no QoS or device priority setting.

2.4 and 5 GHz, and the channel

The router uses a single Wi-Fi name for 2.4, 5 and (on WiFi 6E) 6 GHz. Adaptive steering moves each device to the best band and channel.

  1. In the My Spectrum App, tap Services.

  2. Under Your Spectrum Network, tap your network.

  3. Change the network name or password and save.

Change the channel

Spectrum’s staff say there’s no manual channel setting; the router picks channels per device. A restart lets it look for a better channel.

Mesh: which node a device uses

Spectrum WiFi Pods (Spectrum WiFi Extenders) extend Advanced WiFi. A WiFi 6E router takes up to five Pods.

  1. Plug the extender in and open the My Spectrum App.

  2. Tap Set Up Equipment, then Continue.

  3. Tap Add Location and name the extender after its room.

  4. To rename it later, tap Services, select the extender and tap Edit Extender Name.

Guest network

Spectrum’s staff say its routers have no guest network. Share your main Wi-Fi with the QR code on the router’s label instead.

DNS settings

  1. In the My Spectrum App, tap Services, then your router.

  2. Tap Advanced Settings › DNS Server › Manage DNS.

  3. Enter a primary and secondary DNS server and save.

  4. To go back, choose Use Spectrum DNS.

Connection status and logs

  1. Check the front light; solid blue (blue/green on WiFi 6) means connected, pulsing red means a problem.

  2. In the My Spectrum App, open Services; your equipment shows Connected, Unavailable or Connection Issue.

  3. If there’s an outage in your area, tap View Outage Details.

  4. You can also ask “Am I in an outage?” in Spectrum’s chat.

Turn on outage alerts in the app’s notification settings to hear when service is restored.

Questions

Can I sign in to the router at 192.168.1.1?

No. Spectrum’s staff say these routers’ settings can’t be reached by IP address. Use the My Spectrum App or Spectrum.net.

Why don’t I see Advanced Settings in the app?

Spectrum says Advanced Settings are rolling out by market. Its staff suggest restarting the router, reinstalling the app, or checking on Spectrum.net.

Can I get separate 2.4 and 5 GHz networks?

Not on these routers. They use one Wi-Fi name and steer devices automatically. For full control, Spectrum suggests using your own router.
