Sky Hub login, restart, port forwarding and UPnP

Sky supplies its own hub with Sky Broadband. The white Sky Max and Gigafast+ Hubs are managed mostly in the My Sky app, with a smaller set of settings in a browser at 192.168.0.1; older black hubs use the browser only.

The username is admin. On a Sky Max, Gigafast+ or Broadband Hub, the password is the Wi-Fi password printed on the bottom or back of the hub, unless you changed it.

Checked 1 November 2026. Sky Max Hub and Sky Gigafast+ Hub on firmware 8.6, Sky Broadband Hub on 7.04, and the My Sky app (menus as of 2026). Sky Hub and Sky Q Hub no longer get security updates.

Sign in to the Sky Hub

Factory default. Sky Q Hub and the older Sky Hub: username admin, password sky. Sky says to use a strong password of your own; change it under Troubleshooting › Change password on newer hubs.

  1. Connect your Mac to the hub by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

  2. Type 192.168.0.1 into the browser’s address bar.

  3. Pick a menu, such as Advanced, and sign in as admin with the hub password.

  4. On a Max or Gigafast+ Hub, change it under Troubleshooting › Change password, then Save.

Forgotten a password you changed? Reset the hub: hold the WPS button on a Max Hub for 30 seconds, or the Reset button on other hubs until the light flashes. This restores the default Wi-Fi name, passwords and every setting.

Restart it properly

  1. Turn the hub off at the plug socket.

  2. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.

  3. Wait a few minutes for the light to return to normal. On a Max Hub it turns white.

Sky says a restart also moves the hub to a less busy Wi-Fi channel. Holding the Max Hub’s WPS button for 30 seconds or more factory-resets it, so press it briefly.

Schedule a restart

Sky’s help pages describe no scheduled restart.

Update the firmware

  1. Leave the hub switched on; Sky updates its software automatically, usually overnight.

  2. On a Max or Gigafast+ Hub, open My Sky and tap Manage › Broadband › My Devices.

  3. Under My network Hubs, pick your hub and read the version under Hub information.

  4. On other hubs, open 192.168.0.1, select Maintenance and read Firmware Version under System Details.

The power light flashes during an update and broadband drops for a few minutes. Don’t turn the hub off meanwhile. Sky rolls versions out gradually, so you may lag its latest list for a while.

See connected devices

  1. Open the My Sky app and tap Manage.

  2. Under Package, tap Broadband › My Devices.

  3. With Sky WiFi Max, use Parental controls › Manage profiles to group, pause or schedule devices.

UPnP and port forwarding

The Sky Max and Gigafast+ Hubs support UPnP, but Sky ships it switched off.

  1. Open 192.168.0.1 and select Advanced.

  2. Sign in as admin with the hub password.

  3. Select Device Discovery.

  4. Next to UPnP, select Enable, then Save.

With UPnP on, any app or device on your network can open ports in the hub firewall, including malware. Sky warns that port forwarding raises the risk to your devices and advises only experienced users to use it. Sky doesn’t document UPnP for its older hubs.

Port forwarding

  1. In My Sky, tap Manage › Broadband › WiFi Settings › Advanced settings.

  2. Tap Port forwarding, then Create/Add port forward rule.

  3. Pick the device, tap Add a port number or Add a port range, and set the protocol.

  4. Tap Apply port forward rules.

On the Max and Gigafast+ Hubs, port forwarding and DMZ are in the app, not the browser.

NAT-PMP

Sky’s help pages don’t mention NAT-PMP.

Prioritise calls and gaming

Device Priority needs the Sky WiFi Max add-on. You must be the account holder.

  1. Open the My Sky app and tap Manage › Broadband › Device Priority.

  2. Select the device to prioritise.

  3. Choose 1 to 8 hours. Tap End prioritisation to stop early.

One device at a time, Wi-Fi only, and it must be connected to the hub rather than a Max Pod. Other devices may slow down meanwhile.

2.4 and 5 GHz, and the channel

Max and Gigafast+ Hubs broadcast one network name for all bands, and Sky documents no way to split them or pick a channel.

  1. To switch a band off, open My Sky and tap Manage › Broadband › WiFi Settings › Advanced settings.

  2. Tap Disable WiFi, then GATEWAY.

  3. Turn 2.4 GHz, 5GHz or 6GHz off.

Change the channel

  1. Turn the hub off at the plug for a few seconds and back on.

  2. Wait a few minutes; the hub picks a less busy channel as it starts.

Older devices that won’t connect

  1. In My Sky, open WiFi Settings › Advanced settings › WiFi security levels.

  2. Choose WPA2 instead of the default WPA3-T and tap Save changes.

Switch back to WPA3-T once the device is replaced or updated.

Mesh: which node a device uses

Sky Max Pods extend a Max or Gigafast+ Hub. Sky supplies up to three with Sky WiFi Max if you don’t get the guaranteed speed.

  1. Set the hub up first, then set the pod up through the My Sky app.

  2. Place the pod about halfway between the hub and the weak spot, in the open.

  3. Plug it in and switch on. Its light flashes, then goes off within three minutes once connected.

Devices pick the hub or a pod by themselves. If one sticks to a weak signal, turn its Wi-Fi off and on.

Guest network

Sky’s help pages document no guest network on any Sky hub. Share your main Wi-Fi with a QR code from Manage › Broadband › WiFi Settings › Share your WiFi details in My Sky.

DNS settings

Sky locks this down: its help pages document no DNS server setting on any Sky hub, in the app or at 192.168.0.1. Sky Broadband Shield, its filtering service, is managed separately in My Sky. Set DNS on the Mac instead.

Connection status and logs

  1. Check Sky Service Status at sky.com/help/servicestatus for outages in your area.

  2. Sign in to Sky’s Service Checker with your Sky iD to test your line.

  3. Check the hub light. On a Max Hub, white is connected and flashing amber is still connecting.

  4. On older hubs, open 192.168.0.1 for the Summary Status page.

Sky may text you or send a My Sky notification when it spots a problem on your line.

Questions

Why can’t I change DNS on my Sky hub?

Sky documents no DNS setting on its hubs, so the hub always hands out Sky’s resolvers. Set a different resolver on your Mac instead.

Where are port forwarding and DMZ on a Sky Max Hub?

In the My Sky app under Manage › Broadband › WiFi Settings › Advanced settings.

Is UPnP on by default?

Not on the Sky Max Hub. Turn it on under Advanced › Device Discovery at 192.168.0.1 if a game console or app needs it.
