Air New Zealand Wi-Fi
Air New Zealand’s Wi-Fi uses Viasat technology, together with Panasonic Avionics and RAVE Aerospace. It’s free on selected flights, mostly on the international fleet.

- Wi-Fi is free on selected flights.
Who provides it
- Viasat
Selected international Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321neo and A320neo aircraft; check the flight because equipment varies.
- Panasonic Avionics
Air New Zealand says the technology comes from Viasat “together with Panasonic Avionics and RAVE Aerospace”.

Named alongside Viasat and Panasonic Avionics on Air New Zealand’s Wi-Fi page.
What’s free
- Wi-Fi is free on selected flights. Air New Zealand’s Wi-Fi page says “Your inflight Wi-Fi is on us.”
- It’s available in all cabin classes on Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft, and you can use it until the aircraft prepares for landing.
- Air New Zealand doesn’t say whether you need to be an Airpoints member. Its troubleshooting list includes a step to register for Wi-Fi.
As of November 2026.
Prices
Air New Zealand publishes no Wi-Fi prices, because the service is free on Wi-Fi-enabled flights.
Its Wi-Fi terms and conditions still describe access charges per aircraft and per flight, payable by card or a nominated Koru account.
As of November 2026.
Streaming and calls
The Wi-Fi is for browsing, email, messages and social media. Air New Zealand says you can’t stream high-resolution or full-screen video, make voice or video calls, download or update apps, or use cloud storage. Real-time multiplayer games aren’t supported, and uploads are slower than downloads.
VPNs
Air New Zealand doesn’t publish a VPN rule. Its troubleshooting steps tell you to disconnect your VPN if the connection fails.
Which planes have it
Air New Zealand lists some 777-300ER aircraft as Wi-Fi enabled but its 777-367ER variants as not enabled. It also lists 787-9 and international A321neo and A320neo aircraft as equipped. Domestic aircraft are listed as not yet enabled: the domestic A321neo and A320, the ATR 72 and the Q300. Check the Air NZ app on the day you fly, as aircraft can change.
How to connect
In the Air NZ app, a Wi-Fi icon next to your flight shows that it has Wi-Fi.
Put your device in flight mode and wait a few minutes after take-off.
Turn Wi-Fi on while staying in flight mode.
Join the
AirNZ_InflightWiFinetwork.Open a browser, go to
wifi.airnz.comand follow the on-screen instructions.
If it doesn’t work, Air New Zealand suggests rejoining the network, refreshing, waiting a few minutes and disconnecting any VPN. Brief blackouts can happen on global flights, and Wi-Fi stops when the aircraft starts to descend.
On board with Kilobat
Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows what each app sends and holds back what can wait. On a plane:
- The sign-in page. When it doesn’t open by itself, the menu bar says This Wi-Fi wants you to sign in, with Open sign-in page. Turn your VPN on after you’ve signed in.
- Mark it metered. macOS treats plane Wi-Fi as unlimited. Mark it Metered in Kilobat’s Wi-Fi menu or with
kilobat networks cost metered, and Kilobat skips its own speed tests. If automatic switching is enabled, it switches to Travel. - Updates wait. With Pro, paused updaters enabled and the network filter on, macOS Software Update, App Store downloads, Google Updater and Microsoft AutoUpdate wait for an unmetered network. The apps keep working.
- See what’s using it. Every app’s upload and download, live in the menu bar, so a messaging-only plan isn’t spent on a sync you forgot.
- Send later. A big upload, such as Dropbox syncing a folder, shows as a row with its speed. With Pro, Send later can hold it until you’re on unmetered Wi-Fi again, for up to eight hours while Kilobat is open.
- Know what’s slow. Health shows latency and loss, and with Pro their history through the flight. Those measurements can help you investigate a slow connection. When Slack or Zoom won’t load, Is it them or me? reads the service’s status page.
