Lufthansa Wi-Fi

Lufthansa’s FlyNet Wi-Fi runs on Viasat (Inmarsat) and the European Aviation Network, with free messaging for members. Free Starlink Wi-Fi, called Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi, began in August 2026 on a few A320neos.

Network
See connection instructions below; the network name may depend on the aircraft.

Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi (Starlink) is free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users in every travel class.

Who provides it

  • Starlink

“Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi”, from August 2026. First on the A320neo D-AINM, with up to ten more A320-family aircraft at Lufthansa and Lufthansa City Airlines by the end of 2026.

  • Viasat (Inmarsat)

Commissioned in 2024 for the technology and service on the newly fitted short- and medium-haul aircraft. Inmarsat, now part of Viasat, has worked with the Group since 2015.

  • European Aviation Network

More than 150 further A220 and A320-family aircraft at Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and SWISS, fitted from late 2024 over about two years.

  • Deutsche Telekom

Runs the 4G LTE ground network that the European Aviation Network uses alongside its satellite.

What’s free

  • Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi (Starlink) is free for Miles & More members and Travel ID users in every travel class. It is available on selected aircraft as the rollout continues.

Streaming and calls

On FlyNet, streaming is part of the paid packages, not free messaging. On Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi, Lufthansa names video streaming and cloud work as uses. Its rules: always use headphones, make no voice or video calls, and don’t broadcast live streams.

VPNs

For Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi, turn off active VPN connections before opening the portal. Lufthansa says you can reactivate the VPN after connecting.

Which planes have it

In January 2024, over 200 A320-family aircraft in the Group had satellite internet, and more than 150 more were to follow. Free messaging covers all Lufthansa long-haul flights. Starlink began on one A320neo on 19 August 2026. Lufthansa Group plans Starlink on all of its roughly 850 aircraft, across its airlines, by 2029.

How to connect

On an aircraft with Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi powered by Starlink:

  1. Enable flight mode and turn Wi-Fi on.

  2. Join Lufthansa Group Wi-Fi. If the portal does not open, visit wifi.lufthansa.com.

  3. Sign in with Travel ID or Miles & More. You can register for Travel ID on board.

FlyNet uses a separate portal. Lufthansa says to sign in with a Miles & More number or Travel ID for free messaging.

On board with Kilobat

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows what each app sends and holds back what can wait. On a plane:

  • The sign-in page. When it doesn’t open by itself, the menu bar says This Wi-Fi wants you to sign in, with Open sign-in page. Turn your VPN on after you’ve signed in.
  • Mark it metered. macOS treats plane Wi-Fi as unlimited. Mark it Metered in Kilobat’s Wi-Fi menu or with kilobat networks cost metered, and Kilobat skips its own speed tests. If automatic switching is enabled, it switches to Travel.
  • Updates wait. With Pro, paused updaters enabled and the network filter on, macOS Software Update, App Store downloads, Google Updater and Microsoft AutoUpdate wait for an unmetered network. The apps keep working.
  • See what’s using it. Every app’s upload and download, live in the menu bar, so a messaging-only plan isn’t spent on a sync you forgot.
  • Send later. A big upload, such as Dropbox syncing a folder, shows as a row with its speed. With Pro, Send later can hold it until you’re on unmetered Wi-Fi again, for up to eight hours while Kilobat is open.
  • Know what’s slow. Health shows latency and loss, and with Pro their history through the flight. Those measurements can help you investigate a slow connection. When Slack or Zoom won’t load, Is it them or me? reads the service’s status page.
