Boosteroid on a Mac

Boosteroid on your Mac, at the bitrate you asked for.

Boosteroid has a Mac app for Intel and Apple silicon and a browser client at cloud.boosteroid.com. It asks for at least 14 Mbps and a ping under 20–30 ms, and its own troubleshooting for Macs starts with AirDrop. Kilobat flags AirDrop and the rest while you play.

Internet speed for each quality

Boosteroid’s figures for H.264 as of November 2026. Its connection must be stable and at least 14 Mbps, with ping to its servers under 20–30 ms, and Boosteroid suggests setting the bitrate about 30% below your connection speed. It doesn’t publish data per hour; the last column is what a stream at the recommended speed would move in an hour.

H.265 in the desktop apps needs about 30% less, and AV1 in a browser about half, up to 40 Mbps. Boosteroid can’t guarantee stable play on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, 4G/LTE or DSL.

Tips Boosteroid gives for Macs

How Kilobat helps

The things Boosteroid tells you to check, checked.

Kilobat notices Boosteroid in its Mac app by the app itself, and at cloud.boosteroid.com once the browser is talking to Boosteroid while its stream comes in. While you play, it does the checking Boosteroid’s tips ask for.

  • AirDrop flagged the moment it scans, and paused in one click.
  • 2.4 GHz and a weak signal flagged as they happen.
  • Uploads and downloads on this Mac named, with Dropbox, Google Drive and Steam held until the session ends (Pro), and other devices on the network seen through your router or a paired Mac (Pro).
  • Ping and the bitrate live, so you can see the 20–30 ms and the speed Boosteroid asks for.

Questions

What internet speed does Boosteroid need?

At least 14 Mbps, and stable. For H.264 Boosteroid lists 24 Mbps minimum and 35 recommended for 1080p at 60 FPS, up to 80 minimum and 100 or more recommended for 4K at 120 FPS, with ping to its servers under 20–30 ms.

Does Boosteroid have a Mac app?

Yes, for macOS 10.15 or later, with separate builds for Intel and Apple silicon. You can also play in a browser at cloud.boosteroid.com.

How much data does Boosteroid use?

Boosteroid doesn’t publish a figure. At the 35 Mbps it recommends for 1080p at 60 FPS, a whole hour would move about 16 GB. Kilobat measures what your own session uses.

Why does Boosteroid tell Mac users to turn off AirDrop?

AirDrop’s link makes the Mac’s Wi-Fi radio leave your channel to scan for nearby devices, which a live stream feels as a stutter. Kilobat flags it while you play and turns it off until the session ends.
