NTT docomo hotspot limits

Checked 1 November 2026 against NTT docomo’s own pages. Plans change: your plan’s terms win.

docomo’s tethering (テザリング) needs no sign-up and has no monthly charge. On its unlimited plans, tethering is unlimited too; on the others, it uses the plan’s monthly data.

Unlimited on eximo, eximo ポイ活, 5Gギガホ, ドコモ MAX and similar plans; within the monthly data on ahamo.
After it
docomo warns of speed limits or higher charges once a set amount of data is used; plans differ.

Hotspot allowance

  • Tethering needs no application and costs nothing extra, over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB.
  • docomo says tethering is unlimited on eximo, eximo ポイ活, 5Gギガホ プレミア, 5Gギガホ, ドコモ MAX, ドコモ ポイ活 MAX and ドコモ ポイ活 20.
  • On ahamo, tethering is free within the monthly data allowance.

Speed after the allowance

  • docomo’s tethering page warns that because connected devices use data too, reaching a certain amount can bring speed limits or high charges, depending on the plan.
  • On eximo, docomo notes that speeds may be limited when the network is congested or during heavy use.
  • On irumo’s 0.5 GB plan, the maximum speed is 3 Mbps.

  2. On eximo, the free data notification service can email you when you reach an amount you choose.

What Kilobat can tell you

If every speed test and big download on your hotspot stops near the same speed on different occasions while the ping stays normal, Health says it looks like a hotspot cap. A weak signal or a busy cell wanders instead, and Kilobat says nothing then. It also notices video held near 1.5 Mbps while other downloads run faster. It can’t see your allowance or tell a hotspot cap from a plan that caps everything: check on the phone too.
