Shortcuts

Your network, in Shortcuts.

Kilobat’s actions work in the Shortcuts app, in automations and from Siri. Build these six in a minute each, or get them from RoutineHub.

Kilobat’s actions

Search for Kilobat in the Shortcuts app’s action list. The first six run without opening the app and hand their result to the next action. Automations need macOS 26 or later.

Ready-made shortcuts

Speed test on new Wi-Fi

Tests every network you join, so you know what a café or hotel gives you before you start a call.

When: Automation › Wi-Fi › Any network, Run Immediately

  1. Kilobat › Run speed test, Size: Automatic
  2. Show Notification with the speed test’s result

Automatic keeps a hotspot to the 10 MB light test. Each result is saved to Kilobat’s speed history too.

Awake until downloads finish

Keeps the Mac awake while a big download runs, then lets it sleep.

When: Run from the menu bar or a keyboard shortcut, or Automation › App › your download app › Is Opened

  1. Kilobat › Keep Mac awake, Length: until downloads finish

It ends once traffic stays under 16 KB/s for 3 minutes. Add Let Mac sleep at the end of a shortcut that downloads something itself.

Ready for a call?

Checks the connection before a call, so you can switch to a hotspot in time.

When: Run before a call, or Automation › App › Zoom › Is Opened

  1. Kilobat › Check internet, Site: zoom.us (or meet.google.com, teams.microsoft.com)
  2. If Check Internet is false: Show Alert “The call may not connect”, then Stop This Shortcut
  3. Kilobat › Run speed test, Size: Light
  4. Show Notification with the speed test’s result

The light test uses at most 10 MB and still tells you whether video will hold up.

Copy a provider report

Copies proof for your internet provider or IT desk, ready to paste into a support chat.

When: Run from the menu bar or a keyboard shortcut

  1. Ask for Input: “A site that fails? Leave empty to skip”, Allow empty
  2. Kilobat › Make provider report, Period: last 24 hours, Site to check: Provided Input
  3. Copy to Clipboard the report
  4. Show Notification: “Report copied. Paste it into the support chat.”

The report leaves out your network’s name and every local address.

Travel on my hotspot

Switches to Travel on your phone’s hotspot and back to Unrestricted at home.

When: Automation › Wi-Fi › your hotspot’s name, Run Immediately; a second one for your home Wi-Fi

  1. Kilobat › Switch profile, Profile: Travel
  2. In the home automation: Kilobat › Switch profile, Profile: Unrestricted

Kilobat already switches to Travel on networks macOS marks as metered, such as an iPhone hotspot. This covers Android hotspots and tethering macOS doesn’t mark. Needs Pro.

Morning network log

Writes one line a day to a note, for a record of what your provider actually delivers.

When: Automation › Time of Day › 9:00, Run Immediately

  1. Kilobat › Check internet
  2. Kilobat › Run speed test, Size: Automatic
  3. Text: Current Date, then the two results
  4. Append to Note: Text, in a note called Network log

Pair it with a provider report when you ask for a discount or a technician.

Questions

Do I need Kilobat Pro?

Only for Switch profile. Every other action is free.

Why doesn’t Kilobat show up in Shortcuts?

Open Kilobat once after installing or updating it, so macOS reads its actions.

Does an automation use my hotspot’s data?

Run speed test with Size: Automatic uses at most 10 MB on a metered network and up to 80 MB elsewhere.
