Better than Activity Monitor’s Network tab
Activity Monitor lists processes, not apps, and shows totals since launch rather than what is happening now. Kilobat groups helper processes under the app they belong to, sorts by live rate, and keeps a history of what each app used.
- Live rates for every app, in bytes or bits per second.
- Session totals and a network budget.
- Usage history by app over 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days (Pro).
- Destinations: which servers an app is talking to, in the dashboard.
Also in your terminal
The free, open-source CLI shows the same live view, with sorting, filters and search, and JSON for scripts:
kilobat status --watch
Questions
Does it need administrator rights?
No. Live per-app traffic works without root. Blocking needs the signed network filter, which you approve in macOS.
Does my traffic leave my Mac?
No. Kilobat reads counters on your Mac; history and rules stay local. There is no account or telemetry.
