Error messages
ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED in Chrome on Mac
Chromium describes this error as: “The Internet connection has been lost.” Chrome found no working connection on the Mac.
Symptoms
- Chrome shows the heading “No internet” and ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED.
- Safari shows “You Are Not Connected to the Internet” at the same time.
Likely causes
- Wi-Fi is off or not joined. The Mac is not on any network.
- No valid IP address. The Mac did not get an address from the router. See Mac has a self-assigned IP address.
- A VPN that blocks traffic. Some VPNs block all traffic while they connect.
- The router or provider is down. If other devices also fail, the problem is not the Mac.
How to check
Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar. Make sure that Wi-Fi is on and that the Mac joined your network.
Show the address and router of the Wi-Fi service.
networksetup -getinfo Wi-FiFind the router address in the
gatewayline. Then ping it.route -n get default ping -c 5 192.168.1.1Ping an address on the internet. This test does not use DNS.
ping -c 5 1.1.1.1
How to fix it
Turn Wi-Fi off and on, or join your network again.
If the address starts with 169.254, renew the DHCP lease. See Renew the DHCP lease on a Mac.
Disconnect the VPN for a test.
Restart the router if other devices also fail.

Questions
Why does Chrome say No internet while Wi-Fi is connected?
The link to the router works, but the Mac has no path to the internet. See Mac connected to Wi-Fi but no internet.
