Share Wi-Fi with a QR code

Kilobat makes a QR code from the saved password of a network. A phone camera can scan it to join.

Free in the app and the CLIChecked: 29 October 2026

In the app

  1. Open the Kilobat Wi-Fi menu.

  2. Click the … button beside your current network, then click Share network…

  3. Click Unlock with macOS… and authenticate. The password stays on this Mac.

  4. Let the other person scan the code with the phone camera.

  5. To send the password as text, click Copy password for 60 seconds.

With the CLI

  1. Show the password and a QR code in Terminal. macOS asks first.

    kilobat wifi share "Home"
  2. Show only the saved password.

    kilobat wifi password "Home"
  3. List the saved networks in order of preference.

Good to know

  • The QR code contains your network password. Show it only to people that you trust.
  • There is no MCP tool for Wi-Fi passwords. An agent cannot read them.
  • An open network needs no password, so Kilobat shows no code.

Questions

Can I do this without Kilobat?

Yes. macOS can show saved Wi-Fi passwords and share them with nearby Apple devices. See Find a saved Wi-Fi password on a Mac.
