Step by step

## How to connect to LNER Wi-Fi on a Mac

Most devices are set up to join Wi-Fi straight away.

1. Select the `LNER WIFI` network when prompted, or in your Wi-Fi settings.
2. Open your browser. You should land on `wifi.lner.co.uk`.
3. Log in with your email address and password, or register if you’re new to LNER.

On trains other than the Azuma, the browser goes to `lner.on.icomera.com` instead. LNER’s help FAQ spells the network `LNER-WiFi`.

Open sign-in page

### Sign-in page didn’t open? Free:

A VPN, iCloud Private Relay or your own DNS can hide the sign-in page. Kilobat notices the network is waiting and opens the page in one click. Turn the VPN on again once you’re signed in.

## Who gets LNER Wi-Fi, and what it costs

- LNER says onboard Wi-Fi is free for all customers, in Standard and First Class, on all its trains.
- You no longer need a Wi-Fi code from your booking confirmation.
- Season ticket holders on monthly or longer tickets no longer need to email Wi-Fi support to get online.
- The Wi-Fi terms say “Wi-Fi is completely free on all LNER trains.”

As of November 2026.

Coverage

## Where LNER Wi-Fi works, and where it drops

1. LNER says its Wi-Fi uses mobile data connections along the route and picks the best one in each area.
2. LNER says the Wi-Fi on Azuma trains is better than on its previous trains.
3. Azuma trains have power sockets at every seat and USB ports in First Class.
4. LNER’s Wi-Fi is certified under the Friendly WiFi standard, so indecent and inappropriate material is blocked.
5. The terms warn that faults or loss of signal can make the Wi-Fi temporarily unavailable.

The rules

## Data limits, streaming on LNER

### Limits and streaming

LNER restricts streaming on board and suggests downloading TV and films before you travel. Its terms say the service is for general browsing, not streaming music or video or large downloads, and speeds may be restricted. Some high-bandwidth sites may be blocked. Once signed in you can use it for an unlimited time on your journey.

Tips

## Before you board

1. 1

Download shows and films before boarding, because LNER restricts streaming.
2. 2

If the portal doesn’t load, check the LNER Wi-Fi guide PDF linked on its Wi-Fi page.
3. 3

For help, call the Wi-Fi support team on 01163 66 33 36 or email `wifi@lner.co.uk`.

On board with Kilobat

## Make a shared train link go further

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows what each app sends and holds back what can wait. On LNER Wi-Fi on board:

- **The sign-in page.** When it doesn’t open by itself, the menu bar says **This Wi-Fi wants you to sign in**, with **Open sign-in page**. Turn your VPN on again after you’ve signed in. Free:
- **Why it can’t connect.** When a VPN, iCloud Private Relay or custom DNS hides the sign-in page, Kilobat names the layer that broke: VPN, DNS or the network. Free:
- **See what’s using it.** Every app’s upload and download, live in the menu bar, so you know which one is taking the shared link. Free:
- **Mark it metered.** macOS treats train Wi-Fi as unlimited. Mark it **Metered** and Kilobat skips its own speed tests; with automatic switching, Travel blocks backups and the like on that network. Pro:
- **Send later.** A big upload, such as Dropbox syncing a folder, can wait until you’re on unmetered Wi-Fi again, for up to eight hours while Kilobat is open. Pro:

[Download for Mac ↓](https://kilobat.app/downloads/Kilobat-1.33.1.dmg?via=site)

```
brew install seifip/kilobat/kilobat
```

Pro is $29 once for two Macs, with a 7-day free trial and 14-day refunds. More in [saving hotspot data](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data).

**What is eating your bandwidth?** Live traffic for every app, right in your menu bar. Catch the backup choking your call.

**Hotspot data gone in an hour?** Travel blocks backups, and updaters wait until you’re off the hotspot. The apps keep working.

## Questions

**Do I need a Wi-Fi code on LNER?**

No. Wi-Fi is free for everyone. Sign in with your email address and password, or register.

**Is LNER Wi-Fi free in Standard Class?**

Yes. LNER says it is free in Standard as well as First on all its trains.

**Does LNER publish a VPN rule?**

No. LNER’s Wi-Fi page and terms don’t mention VPNs.

**What is the LNER Wi-Fi network called?**

LNER names its network `LNER WIFI`. Join it, then sign in on the page that opens.

**Why won’t the LNER Wi-Fi sign-in page open on my Mac?**

A VPN, iCloud Private Relay or your own DNS can keep the page from opening. Turn them off, open `http://captive.apple.com` in Safari, and turn the VPN on again after you’ve signed in. Kilobat shows **Open sign-in page** when a network is waiting for you.
