# Virgin Media Hub login, restart, guest Wi-Fi and modem mode

The Hub is the combined cable modem and router Virgin Media supplies. You manage it in a browser at `192.168.0.1`, and day to day in the Virgin Media Connect app and the My Virgin Media app.

Virgin Media Hub

`192.168.0.1` or `192.168.100.1 (in modem mode)`

App

The Virgin Media Connect app and My Virgin Media app (iOS and Android)

Password

The Hub’s settings password is printed on the label on the base of the Hub. It is a different password from the Wi-Fi one on the same label.

Models

Hub 5, Hub 5x, Hub 4, Hub 3

**Checked 1 November 2026.** Virgin Media Hub 3, Hub 4, Hub 5 and Hub 5x with current software (menus as of 2026), the Virgin Media Connect app and the My Virgin Media app. Older Super Hubs differ.

## Sign in to the Virgin Media Hub

1. Connect your Mac to the Hub by Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
2. Type `192.168.0.1` into the browser’s address bar.
3. Enter the settings password from the base of the Hub and sign in.
4. To change it, open My Virgin Media, tap the **Broadband** tab, then the menu icon › **WiFi networks**.

Forgotten a settings password you changed? Virgin Media says you must factory reset the Hub: hold the reset button on the back or base for 10 seconds with a pen. This also undoes your Wi-Fi name, password and every other change.

## Restart it properly

1. Switch the Hub off at the wall socket.
2. Check the power cable and the white broadband cable are pushed in firmly.
3. Wait 10 seconds, then switch it back on.
4. Wait 5 to 10 minutes until the white power light is solidly lit.

Don’t hold the reset button: 10 seconds returns the Hub to factory settings.

### Restart from the app

1. Open the Virgin Media Connect app while you’re on the Hub’s Wi-Fi.
2. Use its reboot option to restart the Hub remotely.

### Schedule a restart

Virgin Media’s help pages describe no scheduled restart.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat Pro’s [router check-up](https://kilobat.app/docs/home-network#router-checkup) learns how fast this router usually answers, says when a restart is due, and checks the next day whether it helped.

## Update the firmware

1. Leave the Hub switched on; Virgin Media installs software updates on it remotely.
2. While an update installs, the internet light may flash green. Don’t switch the Hub off.

Virgin Media’s help pages document no manual update or version check for the Hub 3, 4 or 5.

## See connected devices

1. Connect your phone to the Hub’s Wi-Fi and open the Virgin Media Connect app.
2. Sign in with your My Virgin Media details.
3. Open the **Broadband** tab to see your connected devices.
4. Select a device to pause its Wi-Fi, for example at bedtime.

If the tab shows the Hub and Pods instead of devices, tap the Wi-Fi / switch symbol in the middle to flip the view.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat’s [new-device alerts](https://kilobat.app/docs/home-network#new-devices) tell you when a device you haven’t seen joins your home Wi-Fi. **Tools › Devices** lists what answers on the network, and you can name each one.

## UPnP and port forwarding

Virgin Media’s help pages don’t describe the UPnP or port forwarding pages of the Hub 3, 4 or 5, so this guide gives no menu path for them. Its security advice confirms the Hub has port forwarding, filtering rules and a DMZ.

Virgin Media says to remove port forwarding and filtering rules you no longer need, and to keep devices out of the DMZ, which bypasses the firewall. It contacts customers whose Hub exposes a vulnerable service.

### NAT-PMP

Virgin Media’s help pages don’t mention NAT-PMP.

### Ports Virgin Media blocks

Virgin Media blocks some ports across its network, whatever you set on the Hub.

1. Expect TCP and UDP ports 135 to 139 (NetBIOS) and 445 (SMB) to be unreachable from outside.

Traffic on these ports still works inside your home network.

**Kilobat can help.** On supported routers, Kilobat’s [call reports](https://kilobat.app/video-calls) can read available traffic counters, read-only, to identify another device that was busy when a call froze. Correlation does not prove the cause. Kilobat never opens ports.

## Prioritise calls and gaming

Virgin Media’s help pages document no QoS or device-priority setting on the Hub. The Connect app can only pause a device’s Wi-Fi.

**Kilobat can help.** Run Kilobat’s [stutter test](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/test-call-stutter) before and after you change priorities, to see whether calls really got smoother.

## 2.4 and 5 GHz, and the channel

Virgin Media’s Intelligent WiFi manages the Hub’s bands and channels for you, and its help pages give no manual channel steps.

1. To change your Wi-Fi name or password, open My Virgin Media and tap **Broadband**.
2. Tap the menu icon in the top right, then **WiFi networks**.
3. Change the network name or password, or choose which network to broadcast.

### Change the channel

1. Reboot the Hub at the wall socket; Virgin Media suggests this first when Wi-Fi is weak.
2. Run the Connect app’s home scan to test Wi-Fi room by room.

Virgin Media documents no manual channel choice. Modem mode turns off Intelligent WiFi and most Connect app features.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat shows which band and channel your Mac is on, and `kilobat channels` suggests the least crowded channel. More in [crowded Wi-Fi channels](https://kilobat.app/guides/wifi-channel-congestion) and [Wi-Fi on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/wifi-analyzer-mac).

## Mesh: which node a device uses

Virgin Media WiFi Pods (white) form a mesh with the Hub. They come with WiFi Max if you don’t get 30 Mbps in every room.

1. Run the home scan in the Connect app; if it finds a weak spot, you can order a Pod there.
2. Plug the Pod in where the signal drops off, not on an extension lead.
3. Wait up to 10 minutes. The light pulses, then turns off once it connects.
4. Check each Pod’s signal, speed and connected devices in the Connect app.

The Pods don’t support WPS. A light pulsing for longer than 10 minutes may mean a fault.

**Kilobat can help.** When your Mac moves to another node or band, Kilobat’s Health says so, so a weaker node isn’t taken for a router problem. See [find a better Wi-Fi spot](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/find-better-wifi-spot).

## Guest network

1. Open `192.168.0.1` and sign in.
2. On a Hub 5 or 5x, go to **Advanced settings › Enable guest network › Modify your guest network**.
3. On a Hub 3 or 4, select **Modify your guest network** on the main page.
4. Select **Enable your guest network › Next**, note the name and password, then **Next**.
5. Choose how long it should stay on, select **Next**, then **Finish**.

Turn it off again under **Advanced settings**, or manage it in the Connect app.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat can show a network as a QR code, so guests join with their phone’s camera: [share Wi-Fi with a QR code](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/share-wifi-qr-code).

## DNS settings

Virgin Media’s help pages document no DNS server setting on the Hub. Set DNS on the Mac instead.

**Kilobat can help.** Before you change DNS, [compare resolvers with Kilobat](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/pick-faster-dns) to see which answers fastest from your home.

## Connection status and logs

1. Enter your details on Virgin Media’s service status page at `virginmedia.com/help/check/status`.
2. On a Hub 4, 5 or 5x, use **Test my broadband speed** on Virgin Media’s slow internet page.
3. Check the Hub lights. The power light should stay solid white; the internet light flashes at start-up, then turns off.
4. Run the Connect app’s two-step home scan to separate Wi-Fi problems from line problems.

**Kilobat can help.** When the line keeps dropping, Kilobat’s [provider report](https://kilobat.app/docs/health#report) lists outages, latency and speed tests against your plan, ready to send to your provider.

## Questions

**How do I use my own router with a Virgin Media Hub?**

Turn on modem mode at `192.168.0.1`: **Super Hub › Modem Mode › Enable Modem Mode › Apply Changes**. The Hub then answers at `192.168.100.1`. Virgin Media says modem mode is not currently available on the Hub 5x.

**How do I leave modem mode?**

Open `192.168.100.1`, select **Hub Settings**, then **Enable Router Mode** or **Disable Modem Mode**, and **Apply Changes**. A factory reset also restores router mode.

**Which password goes where?**

Both are on the base of the Hub. The Wi-Fi password connects devices; the settings password opens `192.168.0.1`.
