# Is Zoom down right now?

The card here reads Zoom’s status page live. If it reports no problems, the fault is probably on your side, and Kilobat finds where.

## Sound familiar?

- “Is Zoom down, or is it just me?”
- “Zoom won’t load, but everything else does.”
- “The Zoom call froze and I can’t tell whose fault it is.”
- “Should I restart the router, or wait it out?”

## Your connection, or their outage?

What you notice says a lot about which side the problem is on. Kilobat checks both sides and says which.

1. ### Only Zoom fails; everything else loads

   An outage at Zoom, or something on the path to it only: DNS, a VPN or proxy, a blocked host.

   Why can’t it connect? checks every layer to zoom.us, then Zoom’s status page. If the page reports an outage and nothing on your side failed, it says “Zoom is down for everyone, not you”. Free:
2. ### Zoom fails on this network, but works on mobile data

   This network: an office, school, hotel or country rule, or its DNS.

   Kilobat compares this network’s DNS with one encrypted lookup and tests the secure connection, then says “looks blocked on this network, not down”, with what it measured. Free:
3. ### Everything is slow, Zoom included

   Your own line: Wi-Fi, the router, your provider or DNS. Not Zoom.

   Router and internet latency side by side show whether your own line is slow. Pro names the failing link, Wi-Fi, router, internet or DNS, with a fix. Free: Pro:
4. ### A Zoom call froze, and everyone froze with you

   Trouble beyond your router, on the path to Zoom’s servers.

   Each call’s card says whether Zoom’s status page reported an outage at the time. Pro adds the possible causes of the freezes. Free:
5. ### Zoom’s status page is green, but Zoom still fails

   The path from your Mac to Zoom: DNS, a VPN or proxy, IPv6, or the server’s answer.

   “Zoom’s status page reports no problems”, then the layer that broke and what to try next. Free:

## Six links between you and Zoom.

Zoom loads only if every step works. A status page covers the last one; Kilobat checks the five before it too.

1. **Your Mac**A VPN, proxy or app in the way
2. **Wi-Fi**Signal, noise and band
3. **Router**Latency and loss to it
4. **Provider**Latency and loss beyond it
5. **DNS**Whether zoom.us resolves, and how fast
6. **Zoom**Zoom’s status page, read live

Why can’t it connect? Free:

## One check, both sides.

Name Zoom and Kilobat checks your Wi-Fi, DNS, VPN and proxy, the connection and the server’s answer, then asks Zoom’s status page. When the page reports an outage and nothing on your side failed, the verdict leads with it. When your Mac is the problem, it says so first.

Terminal

```
# Is it them? Zoom’s status page
$ kilobat down zoom
# Or me? Every layer from this Mac to Zoom
$ kilobat why zoom.us
```

**Why can’t it connect?** Kilobat tests the request and path the app itself uses, its own proxy, IPv6 and tunnels included, and names the layer that broke.

What Kilobat watches

## How Kilobat knows it’s Zoom.

## Questions

**Is Zoom down right now?**

The official answer is Zoom’s status page, [zoomstatus.com](https://www.zoomstatus.com), which Zoom’s team updates. The card at the top of this page reads it live in your browser and repeats only what it says.

**Why does Zoom work for other people but not for me?**

When Zoom’s status page reports no problems, the cause is usually on your side or on the way: your Wi-Fi or router, your provider, DNS, a VPN or proxy, or a network that blocks it. Try mobile data: if Zoom works there, your network is the problem. Kilobat checks each of these and names the one that failed.

**What does Kilobat check for Zoom?**

Connections from the Zoom app, and the sites zoom.us, zoom.com, zoomgov.com, matched to Zoom’s status page. It checks your own line first, then asks the page.

**Will Kilobat tell me when Zoom has an outage?**

Yes. When Zoom keeps failing to connect while your own line is fine, and Zoom’s status page reports trouble, you get one notification per incident. Turn it off in Settings.

**Does it send anything about me?**

No. It sends a plain request to the status page, with no cookies and nothing about you, your network or your apps. Read the [privacy notice](https://kilobat.app/privacy).

**Is it free?**

Yes: the status checks, the notifications and Why can’t it connect? are free. Kilobat Pro, $29 once, adds findings with a fix for your own network, possible causes of call freezes and history.
