# Vodafone Germany hotspot limits

**Checked 1 November 2026** against Vodafone Germany’s own pages. Plans change: your plan’s terms win.

Vodafone Germany says you can simply use your phone as a hotspot on its GigaMobil tariffs, and on CallYa prepaid. Hotspot data comes out of the tariff’s data volume, like the phone’s own.

Hotspot data

Your tariff’s data volume; Vodafone describes no separate hotspot allowance.

After it

Slower until the end of the billing period once the volume is used, unless you book more.

Video

Vodafone publishes no hotspot-specific video limit.

Check

The MeinVodafone app.

## Hotspot allowance

- Vodafone’s mobile internet page suggests using the phone as a hotspot with its GigaMobil tariffs, to get a tablet or laptop online; it works without a contract on CallYa prepaid too.
- It offers the tariff’s own data volume for this and describes no separate hotspot allowance, so the laptop and the phone share it.

## Speed after the allowance

- Once you’ve used your included data volume, you surf more slowly until the end of the current billing period. Messengers usually still work; video and downloads hardly do.
- Vodafone texts you when 80% of your data volume is used. You can reply to that text, or use the MeinVodafone app, to book more with SpeedGo, SpeedFlex, DataPush or SpeedUp.

## Plans without hotspot

The Vodafone pages checked here list no tariff without hotspot.

## Video

Vodafone Germany publishes no video limit for hotspot use.

## Check what’s left

1. Open the MeinVodafone app; it shows your current data use at any time.
2. To add data, book an option in the app, or reply to the 80% text.

## What Kilobat can tell you

If every speed test and big download on your hotspot stops near the same speed on different occasions while the ping stays normal, Health says it looks like a hotspot cap. A weak signal or a busy cell wanders instead, and Kilobat says nothing then. It also notices video held near 1.5 Mbps while other downloads run faster. It can’t see your allowance or tell a hotspot cap from a plan that caps everything: check on the phone too.

It’s free in Health on any phone hotspot, with the measurements behind it in Kilobat Pro, and in the terminal with `kilobat hotspot`. More in [the docs](https://kilobat.app/docs/usage#hotspot-throttling) and [saving hotspot data](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data).

## Questions

**Is my laptop slow because of the hotspot or the tariff?**

Vodafone describes no separate hotspot speed, so check the data volume in the MeinVodafone app first. If it’s used up, everything is slower until the next billing period; if not, compare a speed test on the phone with one on the laptop.

## See what your hotspot is really doing

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows which apps use your hotspot’s data, holds back updaters on metered networks, and says when downloads keep stopping at the same speed.
