# Verizon hotspot limits

**Checked 1 November 2026** against Verizon’s own pages. Plans change: your plan’s terms win.

Verizon gives most phone plans a monthly amount of premium Mobile Hotspot data. After it, hotspot keeps working at a reduced speed for the rest of the month; how slow depends on the plan and on whether you’re on 5G Ultra Wideband.

Hotspot data

30 GB on Unlimited Plus, 200 GB on Unlimited Ultimate, 10 GB on Simplicity; buy it on Unlimited Welcome.

After it

Up to 3 Mbps on 5G Ultra Wideband and 600 kbps on 5G/4G LTE (Plus, Welcome), 1 Mbps (Simplicity), up to 6 Mbps (Ultimate).

Video

Phone video varies by plan and settings: Verizon lists 720p on Simplicity and 480p by default on 5G/4G LTE for Plus and Ultimate.

## Hotspot allowance

From Verizon’s important plan information:

- **Unlimited Plus:** 30 GB a month of 5G Ultra Wideband, 5G or 4G LTE hotspot data.
- **Unlimited Ultimate:** 200 GB a month.
- **Simplicity:** 10 GB a month.
- **Unlimited Welcome:** no hotspot unless you buy the 100 GB Mobile Hotspot perk.

Verizon’s plan terms say the plans’ unlimited data is for use on the smartphone itself; it doesn’t extend to hotspot use.

## Speed after the allowance

- **Unlimited Plus and Welcome (with the perk):** up to 3 Mbps on 5G Ultra Wideband and 600 kbps on 5G or 4G LTE, for the rest of the billing cycle.
- **Simplicity:** up to 1 Mbps for the rest of the billing month.
- **Unlimited Ultimate:** up to 6 Mbps, per the plan information; an older hotspot FAQ says 4 Mbps.
- On Unlimited Welcome, phone and hotspot data on 5G or 4G LTE can also be slower than other traffic when the network is congested.

## Plans without hotspot

- Unlimited Welcome has no hotspot unless the 100 GB perk is added.
- Tablets, watches and hotspot devices have plans of their own, with their own limits.

## Video

- For phone video, Verizon lists 480p as the default on 5G/4G LTE for Unlimited Plus and Ultimate, with higher settings available. Check your plan terms for hotspot video.
- Verizon lists 480p SD phone video on Unlimited Welcome and 720p HD on Simplicity.

## Check what’s left

1. Open the My Verizon app, or sign in at verizon.com.
2. Look up your plan’s Mobile Hotspot allowance and this month’s usage there; Verizon’s hotspot FAQ points to My Verizon for both.

For more, Verizon offers a Data Boost or, on some plans, the 100 GB Mobile Hotspot perk.

## What Kilobat can tell you

If every speed test and big download on your hotspot stops near the same speed, such as the 600 kbps, 1 Mbps, 3 Mbps or 6 Mbps Verizon publishes, on different occasions while the ping stays normal, Health says it looks like Verizon’s hotspot cap. A weak signal or a busy cell wanders instead, and Kilobat says nothing then. It also notices video held near 1.5 Mbps while other downloads run faster. It can’t see your allowance or tell a hotspot cap from a plan that caps everything: check on the phone too.

It’s free in Health on any phone hotspot, with the measurements behind it in Kilobat Pro, and in the terminal with `kilobat hotspot`. More in [the docs](https://kilobat.app/docs/usage#hotspot-throttling) and [saving hotspot data](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data).

## See what your hotspot is really doing

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows which apps use your hotspot’s data, holds back updaters on metered networks, and says when downloads keep stopping at the same speed.
