# Orange hotspot limits

**Checked 1 November 2026** against Orange’s own pages. Plans change: your plan’s terms win.

Orange calls it *partage de connexion*. Using your phone as an access point for a laptop, tablet or console is counted in your mobile plan (*forfait*), like the phone’s own data.

Hotspot data

Where tethering is included or added as an option, it uses your mobile plan’s data allowance.

After it

Once the allowance is used, the speed is reduced or data is blocked, depending on the plan.

Orange publishes no hotspot-specific video limit.

Check

Suivi conso in the Orange et moi app, or in your Espace client.

## Hotspot allowance

- Orange’s help says connection sharing lets you use your mobile as an internet access point for another phone, a tablet or a games console, and that its use is counted in your mobile plan.
- You can share over Wi-Fi (another phone or a tablet), USB (a computer) or Bluetooth.
- Orange also points to its multi-SIM option for giving other mobile devices internet access.

## Speed after the allowance

- When you use your whole mobile internet allowance, Orange reduces the speed or blocks data, depending on the type of plan.
- Orange doesn’t describe a lower speed for connection sharing itself.

## Plans without hotspot

Orange says connection sharing is available with some plans or as an option. Check your own plan.

Orange publishes no video limit for connection sharing.

## Check what’s left

1. Open the Orange et moi app and choose **Suivi conso** for your mobile contract.
2. Or open your Espace client and follow the Suivi conso link for the mobile contract.

Suivi conso shows the current period from the plan’s reset, the reset date and the mobile internet left.

## What Kilobat can tell you

If every speed test and big download on your hotspot stops near the same speed on different occasions while the ping stays normal, Health says it looks like a hotspot cap. A weak signal or a busy cell wanders instead, and Kilobat says nothing then. It also notices video held near 1.5 Mbps while other downloads run faster. It can’t see your allowance or tell a hotspot cap from a plan that caps everything: check on the phone too.

It’s free in Health on any phone hotspot, with the measurements behind it in Kilobat Pro, and in the terminal with `kilobat hotspot`. More in [the docs](https://kilobat.app/docs/usage#hotspot-throttling) and [saving hotspot data](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data).

## Questions

**My Orange hotspot crawls near the end of the month. Why?**

A used-up mobile data allowance can reduce speed, depending on the plan. Check what’s left and when it resets in Suivi conso in Orange et moi.

## See what your hotspot is really doing

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows which apps use your hotspot’s data, holds back updaters on metered networks, and says when downloads keep stopping at the same speed.
