# Free Mobile hotspot limits

**Checked 1 November 2026** against Free Mobile’s own pages. Plans change: your plan’s terms win.

Free Mobile lets you share your smartphone’s mobile internet with your other devices (*partage de connexion*). Free warns that it uses up your plan’s mobile internet allowance.

Hotspot data

Your plan’s mobile internet allowance (*enveloppe Internet mobile*).

After it

Reduced speed beyond the allowance on plans such as Forfait Free 5G+ (350 GB).

Video

Free publishes no hotspot-specific video limit.

Check

Your Espace Abonné, on the web or in the Free app.

## Hotspot allowance

- Free’s help says connection sharing gives your other devices internet access, and is especially useful on the move or when the Freebox is down.
- It warns that connection sharing uses up your plan’s mobile internet allowance.
- On the Forfait Free 5G+, that allowance is 350 GB in 5G/5G+ in mainland France.

## Speed after the allowance

- The Forfait Free 5G+ page says the speed is reduced beyond 350 GB.
- Free doesn’t describe a lower speed for connection sharing itself.

## Plans without hotspot

The Free pages checked here list no plan that excludes connection sharing.

## Video

Free publishes no video limit for connection sharing.

## Check what’s left

1. Sign in to your Espace Abonné Mobile on mobile.free.fr, or open it from the Free app.
2. Look at this month’s mobile internet use against your plan’s allowance.

To set connection sharing up on a phone bought from Free, Free’s help points to **Mon Mobile › Prise en main** and a search for “Partage de connexion”.

## What Kilobat can tell you

If every speed test and big download on your hotspot stops near the same speed on different occasions while the ping stays normal, Health says it looks like a hotspot cap. A weak signal or a busy cell wanders instead, and Kilobat says nothing then. It also notices video held near 1.5 Mbps while other downloads run faster. It can’t see your allowance or tell a hotspot cap from a plan that caps everything: check on the phone too.

It’s free in Health on any phone hotspot, with the measurements behind it in Kilobat Pro, and in the terminal with `kilobat hotspot`. More in [the docs](https://kilobat.app/docs/usage#hotspot-throttling) and [saving hotspot data](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data).

## Questions

**Does Free slow connection sharing on its own?**

Free’s pages describe no separate speed for it. Sharing simply uses the same allowance as the phone, so a slow laptop with allowance left is more likely the signal; compare a speed test on the phone with one on the laptop.

Checked against Free Mobile’s own plan pages, terms and help articles on 1 November 2026. Allowances and speeds differ by plan and change often; what your own plan says wins.

## See what your hotspot is really doing

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app that shows which apps use your hotspot’s data, holds back updaters on metered networks, and says when downloads keep stopping at the same speed.

```
