Turn your VPN on again after you’ve signed in. Free: - **Why it can’t connect.** When a VPN, iCloud Private Relay or custom DNS hides the sign-in page, Kilobat names the layer that broke: VPN, DNS or the network. Free: - **See what’s using it.** Every app’s upload and download, live in the menu bar, so you know which one is taking the shared link. Free: - **Logged out again.** Kilobat learns how long sign-ins last on this network and warns you about five minutes before the next logout. Pro: - **Keep the slow tier for work.** Mark the network **Metered**, and with automatic switching the Travel profile keeps backups and updaters off it while your apps keep working. Pro: [Download for Mac ↓](https://kilobat.app/downloads/Kilobat-1.33.1.dmg?via=site) ``` brew install seifip/kilobat/kilobat ``` Pro is $29 once for two Macs, with a 7-day free trial and 14-day refunds. **What is eating your bandwidth?** Live traffic for every app, right in your menu bar. Catch the backup choking your call. **Hotspot data gone in an hour?** Travel blocks backups, and updaters wait until you’re off the hotspot. The apps keep working. Each guide says who qualifies and the catch, such as booking direct. **Do I need to book direct to get free hotel Wi-Fi?** At some chains, yes. Hilton and Marriott tie free Wi-Fi for members to bookings made through their own channels. Hyatt and Premier Inn give basic Wi-Fi to every guest. Check the chain’s guide. **Why does hotel Wi-Fi ask for my room number and surname?** The sign-in page checks you’re a guest before it lets you online. Marriott and IHG both say their pages can ask for your room number and last name. **Why won’t the hotel Wi-Fi sign-in page open on my Mac?** A VPN, iCloud Private Relay or your own DNS can keep the page from opening. Turn them off, open `http://captive.apple.com` in Safari, and turn the VPN on again after you’ve signed in. Kilobat shows **Open sign-in page** when a network is waiting for you. **How do I stop my Mac using up slow hotel Wi-Fi?** Kilobat shows which app is using the connection, live, so you can quit the one that’s hogging it. With Pro, mark the network Metered and the Travel profile keeps backups and updaters off it while your apps keep working. ## Check in, sign in, and keep the Wi-Fi for what matters.
