# Zoom error 5003 on Mac

Zoom lists error 5003 as a connection problem between the app and Zoom servers. The code alone does not identify the cause.

Applies to: Zoom Workplace on macOS. Network settings can also affect other devices. · Checked: 2 November 2026

## Symptoms

- Zoom shows error 5003 when it cannot connect.
- Other sites or apps may still work.

## Likely causes

- **Network or provider problem.** The connection to Zoom may fail even when another site opens.
- **Firewall or proxy settings.** A network firewall, proxy or security app can interfere with Zoom.
- **A Zoom service incident.** A reported incident may affect a Zoom service. Check the status page before assuming one exists.

## How to check

1. Open zoom.us in a browser, as Zoom recommends. This checks the website, not every meeting connection.
2. Check Zoom's public status page for an incident affecting the service you need.
3. Try another network if available. Compare the result without changing managed network settings.
4. In Zoom, press Command-Option-Shift-D to open the Network Connectivity Tool, then run its Network Test. The shortcut can be customized.

## How to fix it

1. If the status page reports an incident, retry after the service recovers.
2. On a managed network, ask the administrator to check Zoom's current firewall and proxy guidance.
3. Check whether a security app blocks Zoom. Follow the administrator's instructions on managed Macs.
4. If the connection still fails, contact Zoom Support with the error and test results.

## With Kilobat

1. Check Zoom's public status page from Kilobat. A missing report is not proof that all connections work.

   ```
   kilobat down zoom
   ```
2. Test a fresh request to the Zoom website from this Mac. It does not test every Zoom meeting connection.

   ```
   kilobat why https://zoom.us
   ```

## Questions

**Does error 5003 prove Zoom is down?**

No. The error identifies a connection problem, not its location. Check the public status page and your network.

**Does opening zoom.us prove meetings will work?**

No. Zoom meetings use additional connections. Use Zoom's Network Connectivity Tool for a broader test.
