# League of Legends lag on Mac: check ping and packet loss

Lag can come from the game service, the route to it or your local network. Test each before changing settings.

Applies to: League of Legends on macOS. · Checked: 2 November 2026

## Symptoms

- The game displays Attempting to Reconnect.
- Players jump or actions respond late.

## Likely causes

- **A service or route issue.** A game service incident or a problem on the path can interrupt play.
- **Local network contention or interference.** Other traffic and Wi-Fi interference can contribute to delay or loss.

## How to check

1. Check Riot’s service status for your region.
2. Check your account region in Riot’s regional server guide. Regions and transfers can change.
3. Test in a custom game to avoid a penalty during troubleshooting.
4. Use Riot’s connection log reader to inspect a recent match.
5. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if possible. See [Test for packet loss on a Mac with ping](https://kilobat.app/guides/packet-loss-mac).
6. Riot lists UDP ports 5000–5500 and 7000–8000 for the game client. Ask your network administrator about restrictions.

## How to fix it

1. Pause large downloads and test again.
2. If Ethernet helps, check Wi-Fi signal and interference. See [Weak Wi-Fi signal on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/guides/weak-wifi-signal-mac).
3. If the problem continues, use Riot’s support steps and provide the requested logs.

## With Kilobat

1. Run a general connection test. A ping result does not prove the game server is healthy.

## Questions

**Is a high frame rate the same as low latency?**

No. Frame rate measures rendering; latency measures network delay.

**Can a general ping test prove Riot’s servers are healthy?**

No. Check the game’s own status and match logs as well.

**Does League require a particular NAT type?**

Riot’s cited connection guide does not specify a NAT type. Check its current support guidance before changing router settings.
