# EVE Online connection problems on Mac: Tranquility and network tests

EVE Online’s main server is Tranquility. Check its downtime and your route before changing the network.

Applies to: EVE Online on macOS. Check CCP’s current system requirements. · Checked: 2 November 2026

## Symptoms

- The client cannot connect to Tranquility.
- The connection drops during play.
- Actions respond late.

## Likely causes

- **Scheduled downtime.** CCP says Tranquility restarts daily at 11:00 UTC and is unavailable during downtime.
- **A path or Wi-Fi issue.** A weak wireless link or a problem on the route can interrupt the connection.
- **Local rendering performance.** Graphics problems and network delay require different checks.

## Check downtime and the route

1. Check the launcher and EVE announcements for extended downtime.
2. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet if possible. Test other websites to see whether the interruption is broader.
3. CCP recommends a Mac traceroute to its Tranquility hostname.

   ```
   traceroute tranquility.servers.eveonline.com
   ```
4. Run CCP’s ping test to the same hostname.

   ```
   ping -c 30 tranquility.servers.eveonline.com
   ```
5. A hop that ignores traceroute probes does not by itself prove that hop drops game traffic.
6. For a broader comparison, follow [Test for packet loss on a Mac with ping](https://kilobat.app/guides/packet-loss-mac).

## How to fix it

1. Wait for downtime to finish if Tranquility is offline.
2. Pause large transfers and compare the result.
3. If Ethernet is stable but Wi-Fi is not, check signal and interference. See [Weak Wi-Fi signal on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/guides/weak-wifi-signal-mac).
4. For persistent failures, send CCP the diagnostic files its support team requests.

## With Kilobat

1. Compare the router and internet path in one test.

   ```
   kilobat diagnose
   ```
2. Try finding the game’s active connection. macOS may not expose its address.

   ```
   kilobat games --match
   ```
3. A server that does not answer ping can still accept game traffic.

## Questions

**Can I choose another live region?**

CCP identifies Tranquility as the main server. Its test servers are separate and may not be available.

**Which ports and NAT type does EVE require?**

The cited diagnostics page does not specify a complete port list or a required NAT type. Ask CCP or your network administrator.

**Does a failed ping prove Tranquility is down?**

No. Ping responses can be filtered. Check CCP’s notices and follow its diagnostic instructions.
