# Counter-Strike 2 ping from a Mac: relays and network checks

Kilobat can compare Valve relay targets from a Mac. A relay test is not a measurement of every match path.

Applies to: Network checks from macOS. Valve’s current CS2 listing specifies Windows and Linux, not macOS. · Checked: 2 November 2026

## Symptoms

- A match shows high ping or rubber-banding.
- The game feels delayed even though a speed test is fast.

## Likely causes

- **Network delay or jitter.** Late or missing game data can affect a match even when average speed is high.
- **Rendering or streaming.** A low frame rate or a separate stream connection can also cause visible stutter.

## Compare relay and match data

1. Check Steam status and the game’s network telemetry during the affected match.
2. Valve’s CS2 relay configuration includes Frankfurt, London, Tokyo and Sydney. The list can change.
3. Valve’s telemetry distinguishes network problems from frame-rate issues.
4. Compare a wired connection with Wi-Fi where possible. Pause large downloads during the test.
5. If streaming from another machine, test the Mac-to-host path and game-to-server path separately.
6. Use [Test for packet loss on a Mac with ping](https://kilobat.app/guides/packet-loss-mac) to compare the router and internet. A filtered ping does not prove a service is down.

## How to fix it

1. In CS2, review **Settings › Game › Max Acceptable Matchmaking Ping**.
2. Valve says lowering the limit restricts the data centres the matchmaker can select.
3. Valve says extra buffering can smooth loss and jitter, but adds latency. Test the effect before keeping it.
4. If only Wi-Fi is affected, follow [Weak Wi-Fi signal on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/guides/weak-wifi-signal-mac).

## With Kilobat

1. Ping the listed Valve relay targets from the Mac. This compares that Mac’s path to relays.

   ```
   kilobat games --game cs2
   ```
2. A relay target is not necessarily the match server. Streaming from elsewhere adds a separate path.

## Questions

**Does CS2 run natively on macOS?**

Valve’s current listing gives Windows and Linux requirements, not macOS requirements. Check the supported platform before installing.

**Can I select a particular region using a ping limit?**

The limit restricts which data centres matchmaking can select. It does not guarantee a particular match.

**Which ports or NAT type does CS2 require?**

The cited Valve pages do not specify a complete game-specific list or universal NAT requirement. Ask Valve or the network administrator.
