# SwitchBot Hub 2 Wi-Fi: setup, Matter and offline fixes

SwitchBot Hub 2 connects to home Wi-Fi and can bridge supported devices to a Matter platform. Its phone setup requires a 2.4 GHz network.

Wi-Fi

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for Hub 2 setup.

Security

Use the app and router settings supported by your model; WPA3 support is not established by the cited Hub 2 setup guide.

**Checked 2 November 2026.** SwitchBot Hub 2 and the manufacturer’s published app and Matter setup instructions, checked November 2026.

## Wi-Fi it needs

SwitchBot’s Hub 2 setup instructions specify a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Check the network before entering its name and password in the app.

The phone, hub and other home-platform equipment may have separate connections. A phone that has internet access is not proof that the hub joined successfully.

SwitchBot’s Matter troubleshooting asks that Hub 2, iPhone and the Apple home hub be on the same Wi-Fi network. Its instructions also call for mDNS when the hub is present but cannot be added.

The cited Hub 2 setup guide does not specify a setup-network name or a general WPA3 compatibility statement. Check current model documentation before changing security.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat scan` lists the networks around your Mac with their band and channel, so you can see whether yours is on 2.4 GHz at all, and `kilobat channels` names the least crowded channel. More in [Wi-Fi on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/wifi-analyzer-mac).

## Set it up

SwitchBot’s published procedure applies to Hub 2 and identifies the app and firmware versions it checked. Menu names can change with later app versions.

1. Update the SwitchBot app.
2. Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
3. Connect power to Hub 2.
4. Open the app and choose **+ › Add Device › Hub 2**.
5. Hold the On and Off buttons on the hub together for two seconds.
6. Enter the home Wi-Fi name and password in the app.
7. Save the connection and tap **Finish**.

Keep your network password private. Do not post it in a support request.

**Kilobat can help.** Once it has joined, Kilobat’s **Tools › Devices** lists it with its address and maker, and [new-device alerts](https://kilobat.app/docs/home-network#new-devices) tell you whenever something new joins your home Wi-Fi.

## How much data it uses

Usage depends on the connected devices and actions. Measure the connection at the router if you need a household-wide figure.

A phone or Mac traffic total does not include all traffic sent directly by the hub. Check the router’s own counters if available.

The cited SwitchBot setup pages do not publish a fixed daily upload or download figure for Hub 2.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat counts what your Mac sends and receives, app by app, not what other devices use. On a shared or capped connection, its [bandwidth monitor](https://kilobat.app/mac-bandwidth-monitor) and [hotspot data saving](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data) look after the Mac’s share.

## Guest, hotel and dorm Wi-Fi

A guest or managed network may separate devices or restrict local discovery. Ask its operator about local traffic before attempting a Matter setup.

SwitchBot’s Apple Home troubleshooting calls for the hub, phone and home hub to share a network and for mDNS to be enabled. A guest-network policy may prevent those conditions.

The cited setup guide describes home Wi-Fi. It does not establish a general hotel sign-in method for Hub 2, so do not assume a captive portal will work.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat devices --bonjour` lists the devices your Mac can reach and the services they advertise. If other devices do not appear, client isolation is one possible cause; sleeping devices and discovery settings can also affect results.

## When it won’t connect

SwitchBot recommends checking the app, 2.4 GHz network and power before contacting support. Rebooting a shared router can interrupt other users.

1. Confirm the SwitchBot app is up to date.
2. Check the network name and password entered for the hub.
3. Confirm the hub is using a 2.4 GHz network.
4. Check its power cable, adapter and outlet.
5. If you manage the network, restart the router and hub as SwitchBot describes.
6. Try a compatible phone hotspot as a temporary comparison if available.
7. Contact SwitchBot Support if the comparison does not resolve the issue.

SwitchBot suggests temporarily disabling 5 GHz while adding a hub on a dual-band router. Restore it afterwards and consider the effect on other users first.

**Kilobat can help.** Before you blame the device, Kilobat’s [Why can’t it connect?](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/why-cant-it-connect) and `kilobat diagnose` check the Wi-Fi, router, internet and DNS from your Mac.

## When it keeps going offline

Distinguish a hub that has lost Wi-Fi from a Bluetooth accessory that has lost its connection to the hub.

1. Check the hub’s power cable, adapter and outlet.
2. Open the hub’s Wi-Fi settings in the SwitchBot app.
3. Check whether its network connection is stable.
4. If the connection is abnormal, use the app’s edit option to choose a 2.4 GHz network.
5. Check the hub is within useful range of the router and accessory.
6. Follow SwitchBot’s support steps for the specific accessory if it remains disconnected.

SwitchBot documents a separately configured Bluetooth-range offline control for supported infrared appliances. Do not assume every automation works without Wi-Fi.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat health-history` shows whether the router or the internet dropped at the same time, and `kilobat devices --all` marks a device that stopped answering as away. To check the signal where it sits, take your Mac there and use Kilobat’s [radar](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/find-better-wifi-spot).

## Questions

**Can Hub 2 join a 5 GHz network for setup?**

SwitchBot’s Hub 2 instructions specify 2.4 GHz. Use a supported 2.4 GHz network for setup.

**Does Hub 2 need Wi-Fi?**

SwitchBot says Hub 2 cannot work properly without Wi-Fi. A separately configured offline infrared control feature has narrower Bluetooth-range support.

**What should I check if Apple Home cannot add it?**

Follow SwitchBot’s Matter guide for the home hub, shared network and mDNS requirements. Requirements vary with platform and software version.

## See your network from your Mac

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app with a CLI and an MCP server for AI agents. It lists the devices on your Wi-Fi and says when a new one joins, keeps a history of the router’s and the internet’s health, scans nearby channels, and shows which app on your Mac is using the network.
