# Samsung Smart TV Wi-Fi: model bands, setup and connection checks

Samsung Smart TVs can use Wi-Fi or a wired connection. Menus and supported bands depend on the model and software.

Wi-Fi

The 2018 NU7100, NU7200 and NU7300 series are 2.4 GHz only. Check specifications for other models.

Security

The cited pages do not establish one WPA3 setting for every model. Check the model’s manual.

**Checked 2 November 2026.** Samsung support pages and QN90D product specifications checked 2 November 2026. Menu names vary with model and region.

## Wi-Fi it needs

Samsung says the 2018 NU7100/NU710D, NU7200 and NU7300/NU730D models connect only to 2.4 GHz networks.

The QN90D product page lists Wi-Fi 5. A shared product family name does not establish the radio features of every region or model.

Check the model number and its own specifications before choosing a band. A network name is not reliable proof of which band is in use.

Samsung describes both wireless and wired connections. If Wi-Fi remains unstable, Ethernet is an option when the TV and network provide a suitable port.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat scan` lists the networks around your Mac with their band and channel, so you can see whether yours is on 2.4 GHz at all, and `kilobat channels` names the least crowded channel. More in [Wi-Fi on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/wifi-analyzer-mac).

## Set it up

Samsung’s documented settings path applies to the interface shown in its support guide. Older TVs may use a different path.

1. Open **Settings › All Settings** on the TV.
2. Choose **Connection › Network › Open Network Settings**.
3. Select **Wireless**.
4. Select the Wi-Fi network name.
5. Enter the password and follow the prompts.
6. If the network is hidden, choose **Add Network** and enter its name.

Samsung says smart features may require a network connection, an account and acceptance of its terms. Review those prompts on the TV.

**Kilobat can help.** Once it has joined, Kilobat’s **Tools › Devices** lists it with its address and maker, and [new-device alerts](https://kilobat.app/docs/home-network#new-devices) tell you whenever something new joins your home Wi-Fi.

## How much data it uses

Video quality, watch time and the selected app affect the amount used. Updates and other devices can also consume data.

A Mac’s bandwidth monitor measures that Mac’s traffic, not the TV’s. A router with per-device counters may show the TV’s connection.

The cited Samsung support pages do not publish data use per hour for a particular streaming quality. Streaming apps determine their own usage.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat counts what your Mac sends and receives, app by app, not what other devices use. On a shared or capped connection, its [bandwidth monitor](https://kilobat.app/mac-bandwidth-monitor) and [hotspot data saving](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data) look after the Mac’s share.

## Guest, hotel and dorm Wi-Fi

The cited Samsung consumer setup guide does not establish support for every hotel or campus sign-in portal.

Ask the venue how its network handles TVs and whether a browser sign-in is required. Do not assume a network without a password is unrestricted.

A guest network may isolate devices. Samsung’s screen-mirroring instructions ask for the phone and TV to use the same Wi-Fi network.

The same network name does not guarantee discovery if the venue blocks communication between devices. Check its network rules.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat devices --bonjour` lists the devices your Mac can reach and the services they advertise. If other devices do not appear, client isolation is one possible cause; sleeping devices and discovery settings can also affect results.

## When it won’t connect

Samsung recommends checking Network Status to see where the connection fails.

1. Open **Settings › All Settings › Connection › Network › Network Status**.
2. Check whether the TV reaches the router and the internet.
3. Check the same network on another device.
4. Confirm the TV supports the band used by that network.
5. Re-enter the network password and try again.
6. If available, test a different network such as a phone hotspot.
7. Contact Samsung or the network provider if the issue continues.

A hotspot comparison helps isolate the home network, but it does not identify a specific setting as the cause.

**Kilobat can help.** Before you blame the device, Kilobat’s [Why can’t it connect?](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/why-cant-it-connect) and `kilobat diagnose` check the Wi-Fi, router, internet and DNS from your Mac.

## When it keeps going offline

An intermittent connection can come from signal, the router or the service being used. Test after one change at a time.

1. Check other devices for the same interruption.
2. Open the TV’s **Network Status** screen.
3. Check the router is powered and close enough to provide a usable signal.
4. Restart the network equipment using its manufacturer’s instructions.
5. Try Ethernet if your TV and router support it.
6. Check for TV software updates when the connection returns.
7. Use Samsung’s model-specific support if the TV remains offline.

Restarting a shared router interrupts other users. A factory reset is a separate action that can erase settings.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat health-history` shows whether the router or the internet dropped at the same time, and `kilobat devices --all` marks a device that stopped answering as away. To check the signal where it sits, take your Mac there and use Kilobat’s [radar](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/find-better-wifi-spot).

## Questions

**Does every Samsung TV use 5 GHz Wi-Fi?**

No. Samsung lists several 2018 NU series as 2.4 GHz only. Check the exact TV model.

**Where can I see connection status?**

On the interface in Samsung’s guide, open Settings, All Settings, Connection, Network, then Network Status.

**Can I test with a phone hotspot?**

Samsung suggests an alternative network as a comparison. Mobile data use and plan restrictions apply.

## See your network from your Mac

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app with a CLI and an MCP server for AI agents. It lists the devices on your Wi-Fi and says when a new one joins, keeps a history of the router’s and the internet’s health, scans nearby channels, and shows which app on your Mac is using the network.
