# LG webOS TV Wi-Fi: setup, network status and connection checks

LG webOS TVs use the remote to join Wi-Fi. The settings path and wireless specifications depend on the model and webOS version.

Wi-Fi

LG lists Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) for OLED55C44LA. Check the exact model for supported bands.

Security

The cited support pages do not establish WPA3 support for all models. Check the model’s manual.

## Wi-Fi it needs

LG’s Austrian OLED55C44LA product page lists Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and a LAN connection. Other models may have different radios.

Check the model number and region-specific manual before selecting a band or security mode. The TV’s network menu shows the networks it can see.

LG says wireless connections can be affected by other devices using the 2.4 GHz frequency. Distance, walls and router placement can also affect reception.

If a suitable Ethernet port is available, LG describes a wired connection as another way to reach the network. Test it separately from Wi-Fi.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat scan` lists the networks around your Mac with their band and channel, so you can see whether yours is on 2.4 GHz at all, and `kilobat channels` names the least crowded channel. More in [Wi-Fi on a Mac](https://kilobat.app/wifi-analyzer-mac).

## Set it up

For 2021 and later models with webOS 6.0 or later, LG documents the following path. Labels can differ on another model.

1. Press **Settings** on the remote.
2. Select **All Settings › General › Network**.
3. Open **Internet Connection › Wi-Fi Connection**.
4. Choose the wireless network from the list.
5. Enter the case-sensitive password and confirm.
6. Check that the TV reports an internet connection.

For other software versions, use the TV’s support instructions rather than assuming the same menu path.

### On webOS 5.0

LG’s 2020 webOS 5.0 instructions use a different menu.

1. Press **Settings** and open **All Settings**.
2. Choose **Connection › Network Connection Settings › Wi-Fi Connection**.
3. Select the network and enter its password.

**Kilobat can help.** Once it has joined, Kilobat’s **Tools › Devices** lists it with its address and maker, and [new-device alerts](https://kilobat.app/docs/home-network#new-devices) tell you whenever something new joins your home Wi-Fi.

## How much data it uses

Streaming duration, picture quality and software updates can all affect data use. Check the streaming service’s published guidance.

Kilobat’s Mac bandwidth view measures the Mac itself. It does not report the TV’s usage unless a supported router provides separate counters.

The cited LG sources do not provide an hourly data figure per streaming quality. Apps and their video settings determine consumption.

**Kilobat can help.** Kilobat counts what your Mac sends and receives, app by app, not what other devices use. On a shared or capped connection, its [bandwidth monitor](https://kilobat.app/mac-bandwidth-monitor) and [hotspot data saving](https://kilobat.app/save-hotspot-data) look after the Mac’s share.

## Guest, hotel and dorm Wi-Fi

The cited webOS setup pages do not promise that all consumer LG TVs can complete a hotel or campus sign-in page.

Check with the venue and consult the manual for the exact TV. A hospitality model can have different software from a home webOS TV.

LG’s separate manual for an older Roku-powered TV describes Hotel & Dorm Connect. That does not establish the same feature on webOS models.

A guest network can prevent a phone and TV from finding one another even if both have internet access. Ask the network administrator about local access.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat devices --bonjour` lists the devices your Mac can reach and the services they advertise. If other devices do not appear, client isolation is one possible cause; sleeping devices and discovery settings can also affect results.

## When it won’t connect

LG recommends comparing the same network on another device when the TV cannot connect.

1. Check that another phone or computer can use the Wi-Fi.
2. Open the Wi-Fi settings path for your webOS version.
3. Choose the intended network and re-enter its password.
4. Check the network status shown by the TV.
5. If possible, compare with another network such as a phone hotspot.
6. If no network name appears, follow LG’s support guidance.
7. Contact LG support if the problem continues.

A hotspot is a temporary diagnostic comparison and may use mobile data. It cannot identify every possible router fault.

**Kilobat can help.** Before you blame the device, Kilobat’s [Why can’t it connect?](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/why-cant-it-connect) and `kilobat diagnose` check the Wi-Fi, router, internet and DNS from your Mac.

## When it keeps going offline

Check the network first when the TV and apps lose internet access. A single failing app can have a different cause.

1. Check whether other devices are also offline.
2. Check router cables and power.
3. Restart the router and wait for its connection to return.
4. Check Wi-Fi signal and the distance between router and TV.
5. Try a wired connection if both devices support one.
6. Check for TV software updates when online.
7. Use LG’s troubleshooting for the affected model if failures continue.

A router restart interrupts other users. A factory reset is different and can remove saved settings.

**Kilobat can help.** `kilobat health-history` shows whether the router or the internet dropped at the same time, and `kilobat devices --all` marks a device that stopped answering as away. To check the signal where it sits, take your Mac there and use Kilobat’s [radar](https://kilobat.app/guides/recipes/find-better-wifi-spot).

## Questions

**Where is Wi-Fi on an LG webOS TV?**

On LG’s webOS 6.0 and later path, open All Settings, General, Network, Internet Connection, then Wi-Fi Connection.

**Does every LG TV support 5 GHz?**

The cited support guidance does not establish that for every model. Check your TV’s region-specific specifications.

**Can I use the same hotel sign-in steps as a Roku TV?**

Do not assume so. LG’s Roku-powered and webOS TVs use different software; consult the exact model and venue.

## See your network from your Mac

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app with a CLI and an MCP server for AI agents. It lists the devices on your Wi-Fi and says when a new one joins, keeps a history of the router’s and the internet’s health, scans nearby channels, and shows which app on your Mac is using the network.
