# GoPro Wi-Fi: connect Quik, transfer footage and fix pairing

GoPro cameras can transfer footage to a phone through Quik. On supported models, a separate auto-upload feature can send footage to the cloud over home Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi

HERO10 Black offers 2.4 and 5 GHz for mobile connections; check your model and local availability.

Security

Follow the camera and Quik pairing prompts for your model.

**Checked 2 November 2026.** GoPro HERO10 Black manual, HERO (2024) setup and Quik Android troubleshooting, checked November 2026. Features vary by model and region.

## Wi-Fi it needs

Keep two connections distinct: the camera’s connection to Quik on a phone for local transfer, and the camera’s home Wi-Fi connection for a supported cloud upload.

The HERO10 Black manual says its mobile connection defaults to 5 GHz and offers 2.4 GHz where the device or region does not support 5 GHz. Other models can differ.

A camera’s Wi-Fi name, password and pairing steps depend on the camera. Use the camera’s own connection screen and Quik’s prompts rather than assuming a universal name.

A local phone transfer and a cloud upload are different actions. Cloud upload depends on compatible equipment, a configured connection and the subscription and regional conditions for that product.

## Set it up

Use the model’s setup guide to pair the camera with GoPro Quik. The HERO10 manual and current HERO guide describe connecting the camera to the app and following its prompts.

1. Install GoPro Quik on the phone.
2. Turn on the camera and open Quik.
3. Follow Quik’s prompts to add and pair the camera.
4. Open the camera media in Quik and choose footage to download.
5. Keep the camera and phone nearby until the transfer finishes.

### Choose a band on HERO10 Black

1. Swipe down on the rear screen to open the dashboard.
2. Swipe left and open **Connections › Wi-Fi Band**.
3. Choose 2.4 GHz if the phone or region does not support 5 GHz.

This menu is from the HERO10 manual. Check the documentation for another camera rather than assuming identical controls.

## How much data it uses

Local transfer moves the selected files to your phone. Cloud upload is a separate internet transfer and can use a substantial amount of data when footage is large.

GoPro’s HERO (2024) guide describes auto-upload with a Premium or Premium+ subscription: configure it in Quik, connect the camera to home Wi-Fi and power it for the upload. Availability and conditions vary by territory.

For HERO10 Black, GoPro also documents a wired transfer to Quik with an appropriate phone cable or adapter, or copying the microSD card to a computer with a card reader.

Check the connection’s data allowance before enabling an automatic upload, especially on a metered or shared network.

The cited GoPro setup pages do not give a universal upload amount per hour of footage. File size depends on the recording and settings.

## Guest, hotel and dorm Wi-Fi

The phone-to-camera connection for Quik is separate from hotel guest Wi-Fi. A hotel network’s sign-in or isolation policy can matter separately if you want internet access or cloud upload.

GoPro’s HERO (2024) instructions describe auto-upload on the home Wi-Fi network. Do not assume a hotel sign-in page can be completed by the camera; ask the network operator and consult GoPro’s instructions.

Your phone may change its internet connection while joined to the camera. Check its connection before relying on internet access during a transfer.

## When it won’t connect

GoPro’s Android troubleshooting recommends checking current camera and mobile software, then resetting the pairing if needed.

1. Check the camera and phone software are current.
2. Restart the phone and camera.
3. Check the camera’s connection settings and try pairing in Quik again.
4. For HERO10, try the documented 2.4 GHz band if the device or region cannot use 5 GHz.
5. Follow GoPro’s Android or iPhone troubleshooting for your exact device.

GoPro’s Android procedure also resets camera connections and removes the old Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairings. Those steps discard saved pairing information; follow its instructions before re-pairing.

## When it keeps going offline

If a transfer stops, first distinguish the local Quik transfer from a home-network cloud upload.

1. Keep the phone and camera near each other for a local transfer.
2. Check available storage on the receiving phone.
3. Restart Quik and the camera, then reconnect.
4. For auto-upload, check the camera is powered and on the configured home Wi-Fi.
5. Contact GoPro Support if the documented troubleshooting does not resolve the issue.

Back up footage before formatting a memory card or resetting a device.

## Questions

**Does transferring footage to Quik use my home internet?**

The local camera-to-phone transfer is separate from GoPro’s cloud upload. Cloud upload uses the configured network and applicable subscription.

**Can HERO10 Black use 2.4 GHz?**

Yes. Its manual describes a Wi-Fi Band setting and says to use 2.4 GHz if the device or region does not support 5 GHz.

## See your network from your Mac

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app with a CLI and an MCP server for AI agents. It lists the devices on your Wi-Fi and says when a new one joins, keeps a history of the router’s and the internet’s health, scans nearby channels, and shows which app on your Mac is using the network.
