# Osmo Action Wi-Fi: connect DJI Mimo and transfer footage

DJI Osmo Action cameras connect to a phone over Wi-Fi through DJI Mimo. Osmo Action 4 can also export footage to a computer over USB.

Wi-Fi

Osmo Action 4 lists 2.4 GHz, 5.1 GHz and 5.8 GHz Wi-Fi frequencies; availability varies by region.

Security

Use the camera’s own connection information and DJI Mimo prompts; DJI’s cited guidance does not specify one universal security mode.

App

## Wi-Fi it needs

The Osmo Action series connects a mobile device to the camera over Wi-Fi. DJI says Bluetooth assists a later connection without entering the camera’s Wi-Fi password, but the camera and phone do not connect directly for this workflow over Bluetooth alone.

Osmo Action 4 specifications list 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and frequencies at 2.4, 5.1 and 5.8 GHz. The availability of a frequency depends on local rules and the devices involved.

This direct camera connection is separate from the Wi-Fi network used for internet access. DJI documents ways to view or reset the camera’s name and password; it does not give one universal setup name for all Action cameras.

## Set it up

DJI’s Action 4 FAQ describes connecting from the DJI Mimo app. Turn on the camera and keep the phone nearby.

1. Open DJI Mimo on the phone.
2. Tap the camera icon at the top left of the home screen.
3. Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the phone when prompted.
4. Select Osmo Action 4 and follow the connection prompts.
5. Open the camera’s media in Mimo and select footage to download.

### Export to a Mac

DJI’s footage export guide lists computer export for Osmo Action 4 and other Action models. Connect the camera using a suitable USB-C cable and follow the camera and Mac prompts.

Select the camera storage in Finder or the supported import workflow, then copy the files you want. The exact prompts differ by model and operating system; consult DJI’s export guide.

## How much data it uses

A direct transfer to the phone or a USB copy to the Mac is distinct from uploading footage to an internet service. Firmware downloads and any cloud service you choose can use internet data.

Check free space on the receiving device before copying large videos. Keep the originals until you have checked the copied files.

DJI’s cited connection and export pages do not give an internet data-use figure per hour of footage. The file size varies with the recording format and duration.

## Guest, hotel and dorm Wi-Fi

The camera-to-phone connection uses the camera’s Wi-Fi, rather than requiring the camera to join a hotel’s guest network. A hotel sign-in page is a separate matter from the local transfer.

The phone may change its internet connection while connected to the camera. Check its Wi-Fi and cellular settings if you need internet access at the same time.

DJI’s firmware guidance may ask you to reconnect the phone to another Wi-Fi network to download an update. Check data limits and follow the instructions for the specific device.

## When it won’t connect

If Mimo cannot find or join the camera’s Wi-Fi, DJI recommends checking software, radios and permissions.

1. Restart the phone and camera.
2. Check that the DJI Mimo app and camera firmware are current.
3. Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the phone.
4. Check the permissions DJI Mimo requests on your phone.
5. Keep other devices from occupying the connection and retry Mimo.
6. Consult DJI’s connection troubleshooting if it still fails.

DJI lists resetting the camera connection as a later step. Follow the model-specific instructions and expect to reconnect afterwards.

## When it keeps going offline

If footage transfer stops, check the local phone-to-camera connection separately from the phone’s internet connection.

1. Keep the phone and camera close together.
2. Check that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth remain enabled on the phone.
3. Restart the camera and DJI Mimo, then reconnect.
4. Check the phone has enough free storage.
5. Try copying the footage to a computer with USB if wireless transfer remains unavailable.
6. Contact DJI Support if the connection problem persists.

Back up footage before formatting storage or resetting equipment.

## Questions

**Does Osmo Action 4 need hotel Wi-Fi to transfer footage?**

No. DJI describes a direct camera-to-phone Wi-Fi connection through Mimo; it also lists computer export over USB.

**Does Bluetooth carry the camera’s Mimo connection by itself?**

DJI says Action cameras connect to the mobile device through Wi-Fi. Bluetooth can assist the connection without entering the Wi-Fi password.

## See your network from your Mac

Kilobat is a Mac menu-bar app with a CLI and an MCP server for AI agents. It lists the devices on your Wi-Fi and says when a new one joins, keeps a history of the router’s and the internet’s health, scans nearby channels, and shows which app on your Mac is using the network.
