# What is new in Kilobat.

Every release of the Mac app and the open-source CLI.

**1.9.0**October 2026

## Made for Starlink.

- On Starlink, Health shows your dish: ground-station ping, live throughput, alerts in plain words, and a sky map that says which way it’s blocked, like a tree to the north-east.
- Outages from the last day, split into your setup (obstructions), Starlink’s network and dish restarts, also in the report for your provider.
- Call reports and the stutter test know Starlink: a freeze can be blamed on an obstruction or a satellite handover, every 15 seconds.
- Roam plans mark the network metered, and with Pro set a budget of the cap.
- CLI 0.14: `kilobat starlink`, and the MCP tool `get_starlink_status`. All read-only; Kilobat never changes the dish.

**1.8.0**October 2026

## Kilobat follows your Focus.

- Add Kilobat to a Focus in System Settings › Focus › Focus filters: switch to a profile, hold sync and download apps, or pause updaters while that Focus is on. Everything goes back when it ends.
- A Focus and Call mode can both hold apps; a call ending never undoes the Focus, or the other way round.
- Switching to Unrestricted works without Pro; other profiles and holding apps are part of Kilobat Pro.

**1.7.0**October 2026

## Find your best game server.

- Speed › Game servers pings every data center of Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Deadlock or Fortnite and shows the best region for you, with jitter and loss.
- Use on overlay puts that ping on stream, naming the data center on the pill, such as “CS2 · Frankfurt”.
- CLI 0.13: `kilobat games`, and the MCP tool `get_game_ping`.

**1.6.0**October 2026

## Calls that don’t freeze.

- Call mode: while you’re on a call, Kilobat pauses Dropbox, Google Drive, backups, torrents and launcher downloads, and resumes them the moment it ends. The call’s card says what it held. Pro.
- The check before meetings: five minutes before a call on your calendar, Kilobat checks the line and tells you only if something would freeze it, with a button to pause the culprits.
- Call reports can now blame another device on your network, such as a TV or console, from your router’s traffic counters.
- Plan check: light speed tests at quiet hours, compared with the plan you pay for. “You got 61% of your 500 Mbps”, with evenings shown apart, in the Speed tab and the report for your provider.
- Your year in Kilobat: a share card with the data you moved, your hungriest app, your best café Wi-Fi and your longest streak of calls without a freeze. It’s ready for December.
- A Gaming row in the speed test’s readiness, and the AirDrop pause now holds when macOS tries to bring AirDrop back.
- Kilobat in Shortcuts: Check internet, Run speed test, Keep Mac awake, Let Mac sleep, Make provider report and Switch profile run without opening Kilobat, with [six ready-made shortcuts](https://kilobat.app/shortcuts) and Siri phrases.

**1.5.0**October 2026

## Every call gets a report card.

- After each call in Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Slack, Webex, Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal or a browser, Kilobat says whether it froze and why: another app uploading or downloading, the Wi-Fi, AirDrop scanning, beyond your router, or the Mac itself with its CPU maxed out, memory running out, running hot or the GPU saturated. It never hears the call.
- The card shows in Health › Calls and as a notification. Kilobat counts the freezes for free; Pro names each cause and says what to try. `kilobat calls` and the MCP tool `get_call_reports` list them too.
- Widgets for the desktop and Notification Center: Network status with the bat, your ping and a Test button; Data today with your budget; and Speed test.
- Give Pro, get Pro: every Pro license has its own referral link in Settings. A friend who opens Kilobat through it gets a 30-day Pro trial instead of 7, each friend who buys adds a Mac to your license, and every third earns you a free license. No account needed.

**1.4.0**October 2026

## Kilobat speaks your language.

- The app, the site and every guide are now in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, French and German. Kilobat follows the language you set for it in System Settings › General › Language & Region; the CLI stays English for scripts.
- A new share card, This place: a Wi-Fi report for the café, coworking space, hotel or library you're working from. Pick the place from Apple Maps search and the card shows a small map with a dot on it, then download, upload and ping from your newest test on that network, video-call readiness, latency under load and the Wi-Fi band, plus tags such as Power outlets, Quiet or Open late and a one-line note.
- The card never shows the Wi-Fi name. The map shows the place you picked, not where you are, unless you choose Use my location. Open it from Share & Export in the right-click menu, or with kilobat://share/place.

**1.3.7**October 2026

## Made for proxies and VPNs.

- Traffic through a proxy app such as Clash Verge, ClashX, Surge or sing-box now counts for the app that sent it. The proxy or VPN that forwards it is labelled “Carries other apps’ traffic” and isn’t counted twice.
- With a Clash-compatible proxy, each app’s row shows the node it went through, such as “via HK-01”, with the rule in its tooltip.
- Health finds a system proxy that points at an app that isn’t running, DNS or IPv6 that skip your VPN, a proxy and a VPN fighting over traffic, and blocking that can’t see apps behind a system proxy.
- Why can’t it connect? tests the proxy’s current nodes and names a dead one.
- CLI 0.10: `kilobat proxy`, `proxy routes`, `proxy test` and `kilobat vpn`, and three new MCP tools for agents.

**1.3.6**October 2026

## Your ping, on stream.

- A streaming overlay for OBS and other streaming apps: live ping, jitter, loss and the last minute as a line, with the bat smiling or frowning with your connection. Turn it on in Settings › Network and add `http://localhost:7171/` as a Browser Source. Only this Mac can open it. With Pro, hide the wordmark.
- CLI 0.9: `kilobat overlay` serves the same page without the app.

**1.3.5**October 2026

## A report for your provider.

- Health has a report button: what Kilobat measured on this network over 24 hours or 7 days, ready for your internet provider or IT desk. It covers outages, latency at the router and beyond, ping loss, speed tests against your plan, and a check of the site that fails. Copy it as text, or save or share it as a PDF.
- It leaves out your network’s name, every local address, device names and which apps used the network, and says so.
- CLI 0.8: `kilobat support-report`, and the MCP tool `create_support_report` for agents.
- Kilobat Pro is free for students: [ask with your school email](https://kilobat.app/students).

**1.3.4**October 2026

## Open Kilobat from Raycast.

- kilobat:// links open a tab or a share card directly, for Raycast and other launchers: kilobat://open/speed, kilobat://open/history, kilobat://share/speed.
- The speed test's connections are a Single or Parallel toggle beside Test again; both share the same 80 MB limit.
- The app list's Show menu is Kilobat's own panel, with Group by owning app as a switch.
- The dashboard's header icons line up.
- CLI 0.7.1: speedtest --progress streams live speeds, the speed test reports idle latency, jitter and AI-agent readiness, and status names the app each process belongs to.

**1.3.3**October 2026

## Easier to read at a glance.

- Health lists what it found as short findings, each with a one-line fix and a button: Open Radar, Show DNS, Run speed test or Test again. On a metered network the speed test waits for you to start it.
- The keep-awake panel is more compact, with its options on two lines each.
- Nearby and the local link use plain words: one AirDrop row with who can send to you, link speed, and packet loss that turns red when it matters.
- Tooltips on every icon and figure that needed one, including the popover's footer buttons.

**1.3.2**October 2026

## Calmer and clearer.

- Click the profile tag in the popover or the dashboard to switch between Travel, Work and Unrestricted.
- New apps, the budget and every dropdown open Kilobat's own panels: each choice says what it does, with a check on the current one.
- The speed test fits on one row: Test, how many connections, and share.
- Less fine print everywhere: explanations moved into tooltips, repeated labels and footers are gone, and the budget card shows what you used without the extra breakdown, which is a hover away.

**1.3.1**October 2026

## See where your traffic leaves, and stay awake while plugged in.

- Stay awake while plugged in: plugging in the power adapter keeps the Mac awake until you unplug it. Turn it off and it waits for the next plug-in; it never ends a session you started, a download or an agent run.
- The teacup opens a new keep-awake panel: durations at a glance, Until downloads finish, While an app is in front with a searchable list of open apps, and switches for the automatic rules. One Keep the screen on now covers everything Kilobat keeps awake.
- Where traffic leaves: Health, the popover and the Wi-Fi menu show whether a VPN carries all your traffic, only some of it, or none, and the menu bar can too. Turn on the public IP lookup to see the exit address and the country it is registered in. Kilobat says what it measured, never that a VPN or a country makes you private.
- Speed tests explain themselves: each result records the server it reached, how many connections it used, and the network, Wi-Fi band, signal and VPN at the time. Run four connections at once within the same data cap, and compare any two tests to see what differed.
- Route history: trace a host several times and see each hop over time, where lasting delay starts, which hops changed and which only skip replies. LAN tests with iperf3 show plain results.
- Kilobat's own switches everywhere, and matching titles in the Wi-Fi menu and the popover.
- New on the site: [Guides](https://kilobat.app/guides), step-by-step help for common Mac networking problems, and recipes for the app, the CLI and AI agents.

### CLI 0.7 and MCP

- `kilobat ip [--public]`, `speed-compare`, `speedtest --parallel`, `trace --rounds`, `route-history`, and `settings awake-on-power` and `keep-screen-on`.
- Four new MCP tools: `get_exit_path`, `compare_speed_tests`, `get_route_history` and `run_lan_test`. The agent skills look up Kilobat's guides when the cause isn't clear.

**1.3**October 2026

## Know what your data costs, and let agents run.

- Mark each network Automatic, Metered or Unmetered. On a metered network Kilobat switches to Travel, skips scheduled speed tests and pauses updaters: Google Updater, Microsoft AutoUpdate, macOS Software Update, App Store downloads and Sparkle and Squirrel helpers wait, while the apps keep working.
- Budgets start over like real plans, daily, weekly or on the day yours renews, and any app can have its own quota on everything or just uploads. Kilobat warns about unusual uploads.
- Totals you can trust: the Mac's total comes from the Wi-Fi and Ethernet counters, the local network and AirDrop are shown apart and not counted, a VPN counts once, and System downloads say which app they are for.
- Compare with your router or provider: their figure beside Kilobat's for the same period, in the same unit and direction, with the hours Kilobat recorded, when the Mac slept, and the likely reasons for a difference.
- Agent runs come from the agents' own hooks, per project, as working, waiting for you, done or failed, shown as chips across the top. Keep them running with the lid closed through an opt-in helper that still lets the Mac sleep at your battery floor, when hot or after a time limit. Or stay awake only while an app such as Keynote is in front.
- Why can't it connect? tests the request and path the app itself uses, including its own proxy, IPv6, tunnels and containers, tells the network from the app's request, knows when a provider's servers make the request, and says when a transfer only went quiet.
- The Wi-Fi menu has AirDrop, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi switches, your Bluetooth devices in search and on the keyboard, and the network's data cost. A stutter test finds the spikes speed tests average away.
- Every control is in Kilobat's own style, and each overview card shows its recent past.

### CLI 0.6 and MCP

- `kilobat networks cost`, `updaters`, `report compare`, `quota`, `limit --cycle`, `stutter`, `airdrop`, `bluetooth`, `awake --lid-closed` and `--while-frontmost`, `agent-event` for agent hooks, and `why --context provider` and `--failed-at`.
- Eight new MCP tools: `set_network_cost`, `get_updaters`, `set_updater_pause`, `compare_usage`, `set_app_quota`, `run_stutter_test`, `get_nearby_radios` and `set_airdrop_visibility`. Status and conditions report Internet, local and VPN bytes, metered and its source.

**1.2.1**October 2026

## Clearer answers, and a clean way out.

- Why can’t it connect? now follows exactly the rules the network filter enforces, including blocked IPs and ranges, temporary rules, Ask about new apps and Apple software, and says which rule applies.
- When an agent or the command line asks to allow a waiting app, Kilobat opens the approval window for you to confirm. Blocking still works at once.
- Settings › Remove Kilobat removes the network filter, or uninstalls Kilobat with its login item, keeping your history unless you choose otherwise.
- A tighter tab bar in the menu-bar popover. CLI 0.5.1 matches: `kilobat approve` asks you in the app, and `kilobat why` uses the filter’s rules.

**1.2**October 2026

## See where every connection goes.

- Connections is its own tab, and opens on a globe: every open connection routed to the country its address is registered in, with the busiest countries and the sockets floating over it. Countries are looked up on your Mac.
- Ask about new apps: hold a new app’s first connections and decide once, with who signed it, its path and where it wants to go. Or allow or block apps without a rule, and let Apple’s own software through.
- Every app row shows its last minute of traffic. Click it for the app’s echo: a sentence on what it moved, a waveform marking when you changed networks or an agent ran, which networks carried it, how it compares with its usual and its share of your Mac, live or by hour, day, week and month. Below: its open connections with data and country, and what its developer declares in an Internet Access Policy.
- Block a host from an app’s connections, for that app or every app. The blocklist now takes IP addresses, CIDR ranges and `*.example.com`.
- Tables follow Kilobat’s colours, and the connection tab is now called Health.
- The Wi-Fi menu’s Allow access button shows the Location prompt again, so network names appear, and opens Location Services settings once you’ve answered.

### CLI 0.5 and MCP

- `kilobat bandwidth`, `access-policy`, `approvals`, `approve`, `deny`, `block-host` and `unblock-host`; `settings new-apps` takes `ask`.
- Seven new MCP tools: `get_app_bandwidth`, `get_access_policy`, `set_new_app_mode`, `list_approvals`, `decide_approval`, `block_destination` and `list_blocked_connections`. `list_rules` also returns the new-app mode, connection rules and blocked hosts.

**1.1.1**October 2026

## Clearer agent status.

- The status strip says plainly when AI agents are working, whether or not Kilobat is keeping the Mac awake for them, and fits the menu-bar popover.

**1.1**October 2026

## Stay awake while the work gets done.

- Keep Awake: tap the teacup to keep your Mac awake for an hour or more, until downloads finish, or until you turn it off. Right-click any app to keep awake until it finishes.
- While AI agents work: Kilobat recognises Claude Code, Codex, Cursor Agent, Gemini CLI, Aider and other coding agents by their traffic, keeps the Mac awake only while they’re busy, and tells you when a run goes quiet or the network drops mid-run.
- Every awake session and agent run lands in History with the data moved, the servers it talked to, network changes and battery used. Summaries can go to your phone through ntfy or a webhook.
- Why can’t it connect? checks Wi-Fi, VPN and proxy, DNS, Kilobat’s own rules, the connection and the server’s answer, then names the layer that broke and what to do next.
- Speed tests now say whether AI agents will run smoothly, from latency, jitter, loss and upload.

### Polish

- One matched set of icons across the menu bar, popover and dashboard.
- The app list sorts by session usage by default, so rows stay put while you click.
- Network tools now live in the dashboard instead of a separate window.
- Where your data went counts helpers and services under the app they belong to, as the app list does.
- The usage period picker fits the popover, and adds a one-year view.

**CLI 0.4**October 2026

## Keep-awake and diagnosis for scripts and agents.

- `kilobat awake` keeps the Mac awake `--for 2h`, `--until-quiet`, or for the length of a command: `kilobat awake -- make release`.
- `kilobat why <site>` finds the layer that stops a connection, and exits with an error when one fails.
- `kilobat conditions` reports metered networks, Low Data Mode, VPN, battery and heat in one line of advice.
- `kilobat sessions` lists awake sessions and agent runs.
- MCP adds `keep_awake`, `release_awake`, `get_conditions`, `diagnose_connection` and `list_sessions`.

Update with `brew upgrade kilobat`.

**1.0.1**October 2026

## Share your week, and the app keeps itself up to date.

- Weekly Echo: an image of your week online, with the data you moved, your busiest day and your hungriest app, ready for Instagram or X. Speed tests get their own card too.
- Kilobat now installs signed updates in the background and shows when one is ready.
- Usage history now keeps a year, or 30 or 90 days if you prefer.
- A rebuilt Settings, new Pro screens and the website’s disco bat inside the app.
- Kilobat opens at login by default. You can turn this off in Settings.
- The Pro trial is now 7 days. Trials already started keep their 14.

### Fixes

- Allow access in the Wi-Fi menu now shows the Location prompt, so network names appear.
- Rules for command-line tools and services with long names now take effect.
- The network filter never blocks Kilobat itself, DNS or certificate checks, and “allow for a few minutes” works after a budget runs out.
- Joining a hotspot switches to Travel once, and leaving it brings back your previous profile.
- Live traffic restarts on its own if monitoring stops, and stopping a speed test keeps your last result.
- Standard hosts-file blocklists import, and Block all, Reset session and Remove list ask first.

**CLI 0.3**October 2026

## Sturdier for scripts and agents.

- `--help` works on every command, wherever it appears, and unknown flags are rejected instead of ignored.
- `kilobat report --days` goes back up to a year.
- `kilobat channels` can recommend an empty channel, and scans report unmeasured values as null.
- `kilobat devices` explains when macOS hides the device list, and `devices name` works when piped.
- The status budget line uses the app’s real usage, and failures exit with an error.
- MCP checks argument types, and its speed test tool is no longer marked read-only, so agents ask before using data.

Update with `brew upgrade kilobat`.

**CLI 0.2**October 2026

## The CLI catches up with the app.

- `kilobat wifi`: status, on, off, restart, disconnect, join, saved networks, and a saved password or a QR code to share it.
- `kilobat channels` names the least crowded Wi-Fi channel. `kilobat health-history` shows router, internet and DNS checks over time.
- Speed tests now say whether calls and streaming will hold up, in the JSON too.
- Switch DNS to Quad9, alongside Cloudflare and Google.
- Edit any profile’s rules without switching to it, and remove a rule with `kilobat reset`.
- `kilobat settings` reads and changes the app’s settings, from the new-app default to the menu bar.
- With the app running, the CLI shows Wi-Fi names, whether the network filter is on, and how much of the budget is used.
- The MCP server grows from 9 tools to 19, including Wi-Fi, history, DNS benchmarks and site timing.
- Seven agent skills on skills.sh, each for one job: Wi-Fi, hotspot data, DNS, video calls, bandwidth and general troubleshooting.

Update with `brew upgrade kilobat`.
