# Wi-Fi slow but Ethernet fast? Compare fairly

A matched comparison can help show whether to investigate the local wireless connection.

Invented example: two paired tests on the same Mac and server, minutes apart. These numbers are not customer measurements.

## What to check

Use the same Mac and server. Run several tests close together, first on Wi-Fi and then on direct Ethernet with Wi-Fi disabled. Record the time and reduce background downloads.

## What to do next

If wired results are consistently higher, Wi-Fi or the router is worth investigating. Different test conditions can also affect results, so this does not prove a particular cause.
